2/17/2008, #50, 1st Quarter 2008

Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD! happy the people he has chosen to be his own! (Psalm 33:12)
LORD, move through this land and change our hearts, let our hearts be fixed on you where true joys are to be found.

The LORD looks down from heaven, and beholds all the people in the world. (Psalm 33:13)
LORD, you have brought us out of many lands to this good land; make us one in you.

From where he sits enthroned he turns his gaze on all who dwell on the earth. (Psalm 33:14)
Jesus, turn your eyes to those who are in want this day and provide for them. Please show us our part in helping those in need.

He fashions all the hearts of them and understands all their works. (Psalm 33:15)
Holy Spirit, we judge by outward appearances but you search the heart; please search and purify our hearts.

There is no king that can be saved by a mighty army; a strong man is not delivered by his great strength. (Psalm 33:16)
Father, turn the hearts of our leaders and rulers to you: they have relied too much on military and political strength and not enough on you.

The horse is a vain hope for deliverance; for all its strength it cannot save. (Psalm 33:17)
Jesus, set us in the Episcopal Church free from vain hopes, help us rely on you and your strength and not on craftiness or the schemes of men.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear him, on those who wait upon his love, (Psalm 33:18)
LORD, please bring us to a holy fear of you and the judgment to come.

To pluck their lives from death, and to feed them in time of famine. (Psalm 33:19)
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this day, and give your angels charge over them. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. (From Compline, BCP page 134)

Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. (Psalm 33:20)
Jesus, you are our strong, high tower and we run to you for safety.

Indeed, our heart rejoices in him, for in his holy Name we put our trust. (Psalm 33:21)
Jesus, there is no other name by which we can be saved, yours is the name above all names.

Let your loving kindness, O LORD, be upon us, as we have put our trust in you. (Psalm 33:22)
LORD, please help each one of us make the choice to trust you today. Thank you.
