6/23/2010, #100, 2nd Quarter 2010

So Moses said to Aaron, "Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD. The plague has begun." (Numbers 16:46)
LORD, let the clergy of the Diocese of Albany and the Diocese of Down and Dromore make an offering of incense to you -- a sweet smelling fragrance, and let them come before you and cry out to you for your people.

Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. (Numbers 16:47)
Holy Spirit, move the hearts of all our clergy to the same zeal and speed that Aaron had to make atonement for our sins.

And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped. (Numbers 16:48 )
Jesus, give all of us a heart to stand in the gap, to stand between the dead and the living so that the plague of unbelief and lukewarmness will be stopped in the church.

Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the Korah incident. (Numbers 16:49)
Father, we cry out to you for the dead and the living dead that you will awaken them to resurrection joy.

So Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of meeting, for the plague had stopped. (Numbers 16:50)
Jesus, please raise up intercessors in our dioceses who will stand in the gap, who will stand between the dead and the living as Aaron did. Thank you.

A word received: Pray for my blessing; bless what I AM doing.
Jesus, please help me bless what you are blessing.

So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. (Ephesians 6:21 ESV)
Dear Family, Friends and Intercessors,
Peace and Grace to you in the Name of God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ the Lord!
Linda and I pray that all is well with you. Your prayers and financial support are the wind beneath our wings in the Mission to Perú.

These last few months have been a very busy time for the Chapman’s. May the 29th our oldest daughter Sarah McInnes and her husband David gave birth to their first baby, Luke Donald. Linda drove down to help with the blessed event and helped the new family to get a good start. Five days after birth, Luke Donald came down with a serious fever and was taken to the emergency room. We sent out an emergency prayer alert and so many of you were quick to respond. Luke Donald was healed almost immediately, and we rejoice with all in the graciousness of our God towards Luke Donald. Unbelievably, Luke Donald’s symptoms returned again earlier this week and we sent out another emergency prayer alert; within 24 hrs. Luke Donald was back to normal. Praise God and thank you again!
I believe that God is trying to teach all of us that he answers prayers, and that we can trust him with everything.

Meanwhile in Troy, NY the Mission to Perú has been involved in several events; the St. John’s Outreach Fair, the Episcopal Diocese of Albany Mission Gathering and The Episcopal Diocese of Albany Diocesan Convention. At the closing Eucharist of the Convention Linda and I were sent out to Perú in a blessing by the Diocesan Bishop Bill Love, Bishop Dan Hertzog, and retired Archbishop of the West Indies, The Most Rev. Drexel Gomez.
Our last Sunday here in Troy, NY will be June 27th. We have made many friends here and although leaving will be sad we are excited about finally moving to Perú. By the 29th we plan to sort through our remaining possessions and leave for Long Island where we will store what we don’t take with us at Linda’s sisters house, visit family and then leave for Perú on the fourteenth of July.
In Perú we will be staying in Lima for a few months while Linda studies Spanish. I will travel back and forth to Ica-Ayacucho, and prepare for the consecration.
At this time the consecration is tentatively scheduled for August 30th in Lima.
We ask your prayers for:
      1) Jesus’ leading every step of the way, and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in Perú
      2) Continued health and safety
      3) A smooth transition to Perú
      4) The Consecration
      5) Financial growth in the area of monthly pledges for Linda and me and the new diocese.
      6) The Bond of Peace and the Spirit of Unity with the Ica-Ayacucho team
God bless you!

Subject: Prayer Request
Hi Hugh
I would like to ask everyone to pray for my cousin Marie De Silva and her daughter Lauren who lives in Australia , Lauren aged 26 is currently undergoing transplant surgery (kidney and pancreas). I got a phone call at 1.00am this morning from Lauren to tell me she had just received the "phone call" and was on her way to hospital. She went into theatre at 11.00am. Lauren has been extremely brave over the last few years (she is a diabetic) and it was inevitable that she would eventually need a transplant. She is always smiling and a joy to be with.
Can we pray for the surgeons and hospital staff who are performing the operation and will look after Lauren, her mum and dad and entire family circle and friends? While we give thanks that Lauren has been given the opportunity to receive the organs, can we pray for the family who have lost a person close to them and have been brave and generous in donating the organs.
Thanks, Evelyn

Father we pray that Lauren will feel your presence around her and that the Holy Spirit will be in control of all the medical procedures and that there would be no rejection of the donar organs, that the peace of God that passes all understanding be with the family where the organs have come from and that your love would totally encapsulate them in their grief. We also ask that Lauren family would be totally at peace and that Lauren would soon be home strong and well in Jesus Name.
Prayer request for people to pray for God's protection over all of our work, people and premises. Particularly over these summer weeks. Please ask people to pray that we would be covered by the blood and protection of Jesus and that every scheme and plan of the evil one would be brought to nothing. Please add to this a note of gratitude and thanksgiving to God for all his provision and blessing in so many ways. And a request for ongoing provision financially, and in every other way, in both Willowfield and Mount Merrion .
Many thanks, David
Thank you, Hugh

He and his wife are also friends of mine as I also know them thru their children (ages 9,7 and 2) and other ways. This couple is so amazing and he is the loveliest man. Please take a look at the link below that his wife is posting and just PRAY. THAT IS ALL I AM ASKING IS THAT YOU KEEP HIM IN PRAYER. Click on link below to read about him.

Subject: Mudge Public Prayer Mail 21 June 2010 - ish
Dear Partners in Prayer,
Peace be with you.
This is our weekly public prayer mail.
Here we are at the shortest days of the year....south of the equator. Winter has arrived.
Thanksgivings:
      1) For arriving safely in Lima this past week, and for the start we have made on the tasks ahead.
      2) For my progress in Spanish. I kept it up a bit while I was in the US, and I seem to have made progress. I attribute the progress in part to specific prayers that people prayed for me before we returned to Peru. Thank you.
      3) For the church services today. Julie and Lydia attended La Ascension in the Surco District of Lima, in part to sort out some details about the upcoming missions trip, and I celebrated and preached at the Cathedral in the Miraflores District of Lima. My Father's Day sermon was well received.
      4) For the reception that we have had in Peru since we have arrived back.
      5) For the opportunities before us to transform lives by what we do.
Prayers:
      1) For our priorities, as we sort out what to do next, while reintegrating back to Lima.
      2) For fruitfulness and discernment, for the people, relationships, ministries, finances, resources, and priorities associated with the Diocese of Peru, Saints Augustine seminary, and the Missionaries in Peru (including us).
      3) For the Albany/Peru short term mission trip plans for July 19 to 30.
      4) For ministry at the Cathedral in Lima to July 15, course preparations (effectively planning four courses: New Testament 1 and 2, and Church History 1 and 2), Commission on Ministry plans, and Lydia's educational plans.
Thank you for praying for us. Your praying really makes a difference, and I pray for you every day.
God bless you.
In Christ,
Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia

Subject: Mumford's Musings: That Sinking Feeling.
Mumford's Musings. A weekly thought from Fr. Nigel Mumford+, 6/22/10
That sinking feeling...
A couple of days ago my neighbor asked me if I would like to use their swimming pool for rehab and exercise. What a very kind gesture indeed. I did not hesitate and said yes right away. So, later that day I very cautiously entered the water knowing not to jump in and had this overwhelming feeling not to enter the deep end! That feeling was a huge knowing that in no way should I go near the ramp to the deep! It felt so good to be in the water, it was embryonic a rebirth, if you will. I managed to swim the width of the pool but was totally out of breath for my effort. I was quite a good swimmer before H1N1. I could even swim an Olympic pool length with one breath, underwater! I was huffing and puffing after the narrow width of that pool. I took a rest and then did some simple exercises in the pool again with the same results... huffing and puffing.
After that I tried to lie on my back and float as I used to be able to. To my surprise I sank like a stone. What was going on? I then did the drowning man pose, after warning my wife that I was going to do that not to spook her! Again I sank like a stone to the bottom (of the shallow end) now that feeling, perhaps warning, that God had told me not to go to the deep end made a lot of sense, it is good to listen and pay attention to God!
Now why did I sink? Obviously my lungs cannot hold as much oxygen as they used to causing less buoyancy in my body. I had no idea that was the case and was quite frankly surprised that this happened. Was I given 20/20 hind sight before the event?
Thanks be to God.
Look before you leap!
Actually, better yet,
pray before you leap.
Be well, do good works and for the sake of God love one another.
God bless you
Fr. Nigel+

Albany Intercessor
