11/21/2010, #52, 4th Quarter 2010
And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ, the chosen of God." (Luke 23:35)
Lord Jesus, have mercy on the rulers and teachers of your people who hold you in contempt. Raise up witnesses they can hear and respond to.
The soldiers also mocked him, coming and offering him sour wine, and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save yourself." (Luke 23:36-37)
Holy Spirit, soften the hearts of all those who are involved in executions.
And an inscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. (Luke 23:38 )
Jesus, you are my King -- rule and reign in my heart.
Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us." (Luke 23:39)
O GOD, who spares when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remembers mercy; we humbly beseech you, of your goodness, to comfort and succour all prisoners [especially those who are condemned to die]. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your promises; that, trusting wholly in your mercy, they may not place their confidence anywhere but in you. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, awaken the guilty; and forasmuch as you alone bring light out of darkness, and good out of evil, grant to these your servants, that by the power of your Holy Spirit they may be set free from the chains of sin and death, and may be brought to newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (From the BCP 1928 )
But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?" (Luke 23:40)
Jesus, it is only by your mercy that I am not under condemnation. Your blood has covered all my sins. Thank you.
"And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." (Luke 23:41)
Father, thank you for sending Jesus so that we do not receive our just reward.
Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom." (Luke 23:42)
Holy Spirit, help me as you helped this dying criminal turn to Jesus in the hour of my death. Thank you.
And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43)
Thank you!

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. ... The prayerr of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (James 5:13-15a,16b)
Lord, we thank You for the healing mission in which the Mudges served as small group leaders during the last two weeks. Thank You for every blessing and every grace-filled moment. Thank You for every song of praise that was lifted up to You. We pray that many new people learned of the power of healing prayer. Thank You that every prayer offered in faith makes a sick person well in one way or another. Thank You that you raise up the people praying and those being prayer for. Thank You that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Thank You for your healing grace. Amen.

Subject: hi Dock Prayer Team!
Hi gang!
As always, a huge thank you to all of you who have agreed to pray intentionally for The Dock and the work of God in the Titanic Quarter - it is massively appreciated and utterly vital to everything that happens.
Those of you who are regular receivers of these prayer updates will be pleased to know that your numbers have nearly doubled! - a whole list of people signed up to be Dock Prayer Warriors at the birthday party last Monday night - so to all you newbies, welcome!
Just a quick reminder for all of the 'team purpose' - well obviously it's to pray! - but as well as general intercession for the Titanic Quarter, I'll send out email updates from time to time with specific prayer requests. As these will maybe include particular situations and individuals, can I ask you to keep any of the details confidential and use them only in private prayer.
There are some more 'general' prayer requests always on the website ( http://www.thedockchurch.org/), (click 'Connect' and then click 'Prayer'), and these are of course public and can be shared as far and wide as possible! (we are an international team, with members across the UK and America!)
For now, if those of you who signed up at the birthday party could pop a quick return email back to me, to confirm that I've got your address right and that you're happy with this arrangement (and didn't just get carried away with too much cake!) - that would be much appreciated.
Thanks everybody
Chris
PS just as a reminder of the general prayer requests from the website at the moment, this is the list:
for the growth of the involvement of different denominations and church leaders
for a real desire for unity among the churches in Northern Ireland -- and for people willing to put unity into action
for volunteers, missionaries, helpers and pray-ers to join the work of The Dock
for good relations with businesses, the film studio, the Metropolitan College, Harbour Commissioners and Titanic Quarter Ltd executives
for 'God opportunities' to meet the new residents, business-people, students and tourists
for the process of fundraising -- that the resources will be provided, but also that the project doesn't become all about the money!
for myself and Susan -- for health, protection and guidance
- for the Titanic Quarter itself -- for new residents, tourists, businesses... and for all those involved in the development of the area.
