Prayer Table Report

Christ Church Schenectady Prayer Table Report, Saturday, April 30, 2011, 9:33 - 10:30 a.m. Steve Evans and Torre Bissell on State St. and Carol MacNaughton and Mark Pasko on Albany St. [Steve stood guard in the background the whole hour. He didn't want me there alone.]

+--indicates received a wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina

State St.

Mark -- He is going to do prison ministry in a county jail for the first time this evening.

+Dee -- She said she was hungry and needed money for food. I prayed that God would provide for her. I had no sense that I should give her money.

+Chad (young man) -- Asked prayer for his marriage and for his wife Leprecia. He had drifted away from church and could feel the spiritual emptiness from that. He confessed his sins to Jesus and renewed his life in Jesus.

[While setting up the prayer table I found a woman's military ID on the sidewalk. I wondered how I could return it. It had a name, but no address.]
+Shirley (sister-in-law to Debra, a regular) -- She came with Debra and asked if I had seen an ID around. I took it out of my pocket and handed it to her. Lots of thanksgivings! She had dropped it when she and Debra had come by earlier.
+Debra (regular) -- She asked about my health. She, Shirley (see above) and I had a time of praising and thanking God for his kindness.

+Brittney (young woman) -- "For my life and my job."

+Kenneth (man) -- "Thankful I woke up this morning."

Frank -- I prayed for his provision and protection throughout the week.

+Youssif (young man) -- "That my baby will come out OK and do better" and for his girlfriend, +Erica.

+Nyid (teenage girl)

+Scott -- "For recover and life. I have a year clean."

Steve -- We prayed for guidance about his getting a building to set up his business.

Ed -- Thanksgiving that his echocardiogram came back completely normal.

+Harry -- "Some world peace would be nice."

+Hugh -- 72 today. I prayed for birthday blessings for him and his family.

+++Brandon (bottle guy) -- "I want to be clean." He confessed his sins and accepted forgiveness. He said he already had a cross, but took three more to give away to others. When I handed the three to him, he said, "Oh, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost."

Albany St.

Jermail -- a CD player

Gershon -- "World peace"

++Filisia -- Pray for her sister Kaitlyn -- she has special needs -- pray to be a normal 3 year old. (tears after prayer)

4/30/2011, #27, 2nd Quarter 2011

Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. (Mark 16:9)
Jesus, please make yourself known to us more and more as well.

She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. (Mark 16:10)
Jesus, help us share the good news of your resurrection with those who mourn and weep.

And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe. (Mark 16:11)
Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

After that, He appeared in another form to two of them as they walked and went into the country. (Mark 16:12)
Lord Jesus, please walk with us each day and help us as we walk in your ways.

And they went and told it to the rest, but they did not believe them either. (Mark 16:13)
      Holy Spirit, soften our hearts.

Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. (Mark 16:14)
Father, touch the hearts and minds of the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church, and help them believe the witness of those who have experienced Jesus and the work of your Holy Spirit in their lives. Thank you.

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. (Mark 16:15-20)
Lord, write on our hearts the message you want us to share with others. Thank you.

John 21:1-14; A word received: Ask me where to cast your net.

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, (Psalm 92:12-14)
LORD, please help us to be vigorous, sturdy, and fruitful in old age.

As your days, so shall your strength be. (Deuteronomy 33:25b)
LORD, as our days are, so let our strength be.

and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures,
Holy Spirit, thank you that you enabled Jesus to rise from the dead. Thank you for his victory over sin and death. Please bring us to new life in him.
and ascended into heaven,
Jesus, thank you for your ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of your father. Thank you that you ever live to make intercession for us.
and sitteth on the right hand of the Father;
Father, thank you for giving Jesus such a place of honor; please help us honor him by our words and deeds and belief.
and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead;

Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. (Acts 4:1-2)
Holy Spirit, help us daily preach Jesus and his resurrection. Don't let us be swayed by those who object to the gospel.

And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. (Acts 4:3)
Lord Jesus, when they lay hands on your faithful witnesses, give them strength to endure.

However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. (Acts 4:4)
Father, bless our witness with the power of your Holy Spirit.

And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. (Acts 4:5-6)
Jesus, set us free from fear when you call us to be your witnesses. Give us all an apostolic zeal to share the gospel.

And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this? " (Acts 4:7)
Holy Spirit, please help those who hear us recognized your power at work in us -- that we could not do it on our own power.

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands here before you whole. This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:8-12)
Father, bring us all to knowledge of the power of Jesus' name.

Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, O troubler of Israel?" And he answered, "I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals." (1 Kings 18:17-18 )
Holy Father, help us as a nation and as a people come to a right understanding of our present troubles -- it is because we and our fathers have forsaken your ways and gone after other gods in your name. ***** Date: Wed, 27 Apr 2011
From: Deacon Harvey Huth
Subject: A Prayer Request
A dear friend -- Pastor Dick Anderson -- is battling a very aggressive form of cancer with multiple tumors in both legs and spreading, impaired kidney function, and now blood clots in both legs. A devoted Methodist pastor -- Dick is truly a man of God who now needs our prayers. Please pray for Dick, his wife and family for courage, faith and of course healing; and for his medical team for discernment and wisdom and all of God’s amazing grace they need to help Dick recover and return to the service of our Lord and his parish family. My heartfelt thanks for lifting these dear people up in prayer.

'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6b)
LORD, help us come to you in humility to receive the power of your Holy Spirit so that we can do the work to which you have called us.

And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, (1 Kings 8:10)
Come, Holy Spirit, and let your glory fill our parishes and institutions.

so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. (1 Kings 8:11)
Jesus, please let your glory be manifested among us. Stop us from our busyness and help us see and contemplate your glory.

Then Solomon spoke: "The Lord said he would dwell in the dark cloud. I have surely built you an exalted house, and a place for you to dwell in forever." (1 Kings 8:12-13)
Father, help each of us build that exalted place in our hearts for you to dwell in. Thank you.

Praying the Nicene Creed, a word received 12/29/07: Each day I want you to take a phrase from the Nicene Creed and pray that phrase. My people need to hear what is true and make it their own.
I believe in one God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thank you for being one and thank you for your love for one another. Please help me, help your people live in the reality of your unity and love. Thank you.
the Father Almighty,
Father, thank you for being a father to me. Thank you that by your might you have made your son Jesus known to us so that we can become your children.
maker of heaven and earth,
Thank you, Father, for your creation. Please help us by your Holy Spirit to be better stewards of your creation.
and of all things visible and invisible;
Father, we know that we are surrounded by your angelic hosts and that whole company of heaven, that cloud of witnesses that has gone before us. Help us to be steady in you till we reach that place of rest. Thank you.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
Father, guide us by your Holy Spirit so that every other "lord" in our lives is brought under the sovereign rule of Jesus and he becomes our one Lord. Thank you.
the only begotten Son of God,
Father, thank you for sending your one and only son to us so that we might become your children.
begotten of his Father before all worlds,
Jesus, you have always been there; help us receive you into every part of our lives.
God of God, Light of Light,
Jesus, you are God and you are the light to take us through this time of darkness in the church and in the nation. You are the word of God and are a lamp to our feet.
very God of very God,
Jesus, you and the Father are one; please help us come to know you and him better.
begotten, not made,
Father, thank you for choosing Mary to bring Jesus to us. Help us to respond as she did.
being of one substance with the Father;
Jesus, you came to us bearing the image of the Father so that we might know his love for us. You are one with him and there is no division between you. Please help us by your Holy Spirit to know the unity and character that you share with the Father.
by whom all things were made;
Jesus, everything we have was made by you, there is nothing that we can have that we can call our own except for your cross and resurrection. It is all a free gift of yours; thank you.
who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven,
Jesus, thank you for being willing to give up the glory of heaven to come and live with us. Thank you that day by day your Holy Spirit is willing to live in us in the midst of all our sin.
and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man;
Holy Spirit, thank you for Mary's willingness to receive your over-shadowing and her willingness to risk all to bear Jesus for us.
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
Thank you, Jesus, for what you endured on the cross for us.
he suffered and was buried;
Jesus, thank you for dying for us while we were still sinners. You went to the cross and the grave for us because of your love for your father and for us. Thank you.
and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures,
Holy Spirit, thank you that you enabled Jesus to rise from the dead. Thank you for his victory over sin and death. Please bring us to new life in him.
and ascended into heaven,
Jesus, thank you for your ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of your father. Thank you that you ever live to make intercession for us.
and sitteth on the right hand of the Father;
Father, thank you for giving Jesus such a place of honor; please help us honor him by our words and deeds and belief.
and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead;
Jesus, you are Lord and you are judge; help us to fall into your hands and not the hands of men.
whose kingdom shall have no end.
Thank you, Jesus, for your endurance to the end on the cross. Thank you for establishing an eternal kingdom.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost the Lord, and Giver of Life,
Father, we desperately need the renewing power of your Holy Spirit in the life of the Episcopal Church

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 )
Holy Spirit, please help each person in this diocese know this and live in the reality of it. Thank you.

Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying: "I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; that the LORD may fulfill his word which He spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ he said, 'you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ (1 Kings 2:1-4)
LORD, please help us and our children take heed of our way, and walk before you in truth with all our heart and with all our soul.

And Solomon said: "You have shown great mercy to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; you have continued this great kindness for him, and you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. therefore give to your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of yours?" (1 Kings 3:6-9)
Father, we ask that you give those who rule over us understanding hearts to judge your people. Help them by your Holy Spirit to discern between good and evil. Help them choose the right and shun the wrong.

Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." (John 20:19)
Jesus, please come into that place of our fears and set us free of them with your word, "Peace be with you."

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." (John 20:20-23)
Jesus, please send us forth in the power of your Holy Spirit. Thank you.

4/25/2011, #22, 2nd Quarter 2011

Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: "There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him." (2 Samuel 12:1-4)
Father, help the wealthy of this nation repent of their avarice and taking from others. Reform the tax codes of this nation so that all give their fair share.

So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity." (2 Samuel 12:5-6)
Holy Spirit, set us free from anger at others for their sins and bring amendment to our own lives.

Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ Thus says the LORD: 'Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’" (2 Samuel 12:7-12)
Jesus, raise up witnesses to our leaders in government who will speak your truth to them as Nathan did to David.

So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die." (2 Samuel 12:13-14)
LORD, please help us recognize the cost to the nation of our sins and help us repent. Thank you.

A word received 6/4/2009: Pray for this nation. Pray for wise and godly men and women who will lead my people in my ways. Pray for the courts, that they will do true justice. Pray for the Congress and the legislatures, that they will have a spirit of wisdom and discernment. Pray for the President and the Governors, that their hearts will be turned into my ways.

The Fall of Israel
#36 David and Bathsheba      2 Samuel 11:1-12:25

***** Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2011
From: Forest Rittgers
Subject: Prayer Request for Sally
Please pray for Sally. She fell a couple of weeks ago trying to get the kitten out of the bathtub in the middle of the night - fortunately, falling backward onto the carpeted bedroom floor. No pain or bruising at the time, but several days later she was in a lot of pain. Still no bruising, but the pain has been very difficult ever since and has not responded to heat, cold, meds, velcro back brace, stretching exercises or even a trip to the local massage parlor. Doctor didn't find anything more than muscle tightness and prescribed a muscle relaxer and huge doses of Aleve (600mg 3 times daily). None of that has worked either. She isn't comfortable laying down, sitting or standing up.

Dear Partners in Prayer,
Peace be with you.
This is our weekly public prayer mail.
Alleluya! Christ is risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluya! Happy Easter.
We have had a great week at the Cathedral in Lima. Awesome services and a great group of people, missionaries and Peruvians, alike. Julie enveloped me with incense at the Easter Vigil as I held the Gospel Book for her. I thought I detected a twinkle in her eye...
Thanksgivings:
      1) For all our friends at the Anglican Cathedral of the Good Shepherd.
      2) For the preparations we have made for the steps ahead.
Prayers:
      1) For services this week. I preach and celebrate on Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday; small services but important for those who attend.
      2) For the continued preparations for this summer.
      3) For the relationships and spiritual protection of missionaries and other diocesan team members, and for our ministries, finances, resources, and priorities.
      4) That we would do the things that God would like us to do.
Thank you for praying for us. Your praying makes a difference for us, and I pray for you every day.
God bless you,
In Christ,
Shaw, and on behalf of Julie and Lydia
Missionaries of the Diocese of Albany, serving in Lima, Peru.

Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed. For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. (John 20:8-9)
Jesus, help all of us in this diocese know the Scriptures about you

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimso, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18 )
Holy Spirit, help us reason together with you in our parishes and at the Diocesan Convention. Bring us all to a saving knowledge of Jesus.

"If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; " (Isaiah 1:19)
Father, bring us all to a willing obedience to your word so that we may receive the good that you have prepared for those who walk in your ways..

"But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. (Isaiah 1:20)
LORD, help all of us count the cost of rebellion against your word and refusal to walk in your ways. Make your Scriptures come alive to us so that we may live.

A word received: Wait for me -- walk in step with me.

Praying the Nicene Creed, a word received 12/29/07: Each day I want you to take a phrase from the Nicene Creed and pray that phrase. My people need to hear what is true and make it their own.

Subject: Mudge Scripture Prayer
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 )
Father God, we pray today reflecting upon Jesus' death on the cross. It seemed like such a terrible thing. But it turned into the greatest act ever when Jesus rose from the dead. Our sins have been forgiven and we are promised eternal life with Jesus in heaven. Thank You Jesus for a new and better life! What a gift!
Father, we also pray for Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia. Be with them as they continue their ministry in Peru for the next few months. Give them guidance and discernment so that they hear your voice clearly about the direction in which You intend their ministry to go. May they feel your love and your peace as they enjoy the greatest feast of all, Your Resurrection, Easter! Amen.

One Misty Moisty Morning
[A children's poem. It was a VERY misty moisty morning here in Schenectady.]

One misty moisty morning,
When cloudy was the weather,
I chanced to meet an old man,
Clothed all in leather.
He began to compliment
And I began to grin.
How do you do? And how do you do?
And how do you do again?

State St.

+Jerome (young man) -- asked for joy and well-being.

Bus Driver -- honked and waved to us as he went by.

+Pablo (young man) -- "I am Russian."

Billie (alcoholic) -- His story changes each time we see him. Pray for sobriety for him.

+Jacob and +Crystal -- Prayed that God would keep them save and provide for them.

Bill (regular) -- We prayed that he would be spared any more epileptic seizures and that God would raise up a wife for him.

Albany St.

[No one stopped for prayer on Albany Street. The team spent the last ten minutes of their time driving around the community, praying for it.]

4/23/2011, #19, 2nd Quarter 2011

Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. (Matthew 27:57)
Jesus, it doesn't matter to you if we are rich or poor, female or male, Jew or Gentile, we can still be your disciples and minister to you.

This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. (Matthew 27:58 )
Holy Spirit, thank you for Joseph's willingness to publicly minister to Jesus, even in the hour of his death, by going to Pilate for the Jesus' body. Please give us the same boldness that Joseph had to go before kings and governors (Luke 21:12) and minister to Jesus as we do that.

When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. (Matthew 27:59-60)
Father, please help us minister to Jesus as Joseph did. Help us to praise and worship Jesus and minister to him in love by giving of ourselves and our possessions as Joseph did.

And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb. (Matthew 27:61)
Jesus, thank you for all the women who ministered to you (Matthew 27:55) and who minister to you today. Bless the Sisters of St. Mary and the Daughters of the King as they minister to you in prayer and thanksgiving and in deeds of service. Please raise up many vocations to their life of committed prayer. Thank you.

On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, "Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.’ Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard. (Matthew 27:62-66)
Holy Spirit, move in the hearts of those who live out lies and deception. Bring them to repentance and a saving knowledge of Jesus. Shut the mouths of those who gossip and spread falsehood as you shut the lions' mouths for Daniel. "You shall hide them in the secret place of your presence from the plots of man; you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues." (Psalm 31:20)

Father, please put on all of us the shoes of the preparation to share the gospel of peace; gird our loins with your truth; put on us the breastplate of righteousness, and the helmet of salvation. Place on our arm the shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the evil one; and place in our hand the sword of your Spirit which is your Word, Jesus; that having stood all, we might yet stand. Finally, help us to be strong in Jesus and in the power of his might. Thank you. (See Ephesians 6:10-20)

I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt; put me to doing, put me to suffering; let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee; let me be full, let me be empty; let me have all things, let me have nothing; I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen. From the Watch Night Service by John Wesley.

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.

4/22/2011, #18, 2nd Quarter 2011

Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. (2 Samuel 6:14-15)
Holy Spirit, please help us find the freedom to worship you with abandon as David did.

Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. (2 Samuel 6:16)
Jesus, don't let us be put off by the proud who hold us in contempt for our freedom in you.

So they brought the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts. Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house. (2 Samuel 6:17-19)
Father, come among us and be present to us.

Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, "How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!" (2 Samuel 6:20)
Jesus, please help us keep our eyes on you and continue to worship you in the freedom of your Holy Spirit.

So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor." (2 Samuel 6:21-22)
Lord Jesus Christ, you have called us and blessed us: help us walk in your ways and be mindful of the poor and the lowly among us, and ignore the proud who hold them in contempt.

Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death. (2 Samuel 6:23)
Father, those who are proud and contemptuous of your little ones will never produce good and lasting fruit. Help us contemplate Michal, daughter of Saul, and fear to offend you or your little ones. Give us a heart for the lost and the least. Thank you.

A word received: Wait with me -- watch with me in prayer.
