7/20/2011, #20, 3rd Quarter 2011

On the same day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side." (Mark 4:35)
Jesus, please help us follow wherever you lead.

Now when they had left the multitude, they took him along in the boat as he was. And other little boats were also with him. (Mark 4:36)
Jesus, help us take you as you are. Give us eyes to see you and ears to hear you.

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. (Mark 4:37)
Jesus, we are in the midst of a great storm in your church and in the nation, and we appear to be sinking.

But he was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38 )
We often come to you in the storm, Jesus, with the same question your disciples asked: "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" Thank you for showing us over and over again that you do care!

Then he arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. (Mark 4:39)
Jesus, please rebuke the winds and the waves that buffet us. Help us hear your, "Peace, be still!"

But he said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40)
Holy Spirit, quiet our hearts and set us free from fear.

And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey him! " (Mark 4:41)
Father, please help us know Jesus for who he is. Thank you.

From: Jeanne Gizara
Subject: Mudge Scripture Prayer

Reveal your light and your faithfulness! They will lead me, they will escort me back to your holy hill, and to the place where you live. Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy, so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God with a harp. … Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. (Psalm 43: 3-4 and 5b)

We thank You, Lord, for this time of rest, recreation and reflection in the lives of Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge. We pray for their travels in Colorado: the missionary conference that they are attending and the family wedding at the end of the week. We thank You for the faithfulness with which You have shown the Mudges every step along their journey. Continue, Lord, to shine your light upon them.

We pray that Lydia will be able to take and pass her driver's test before leaving for college and that you protect her on the wilderness adventure in the Adirondacks which is a requirement for her before starting classes. Help her to be ready for her college studies and for the social aspects of college as well.

Let their be safe travel throughout this summer, Lord, and we pray that You will lead the Mudges into their next mission field. Speak to them Lord. May they have that ecstatic joy when they hear your voice. Thank You, God, for your saving intervention.

Praise be the the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
