8/20/2011, #52, 3rd Quarter 2011

Now these are the last words of David. Thus says David the son of Jesse; thus says the man raised up on high, The anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel: (2 Samuel 23:1)
Jesus, let our last words be to your honor and glory.

"The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and his word was on my tongue." (2 Samuel 23:2)
LORD, let your Holy Spirit speak through us, let your word be on our tongue.

"The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: 'He who rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God." (2 Samuel 23:3)
Jesus, you are my rock -- you do not move or shake. Help me find a firm footing n you, Jesus. Please speak to us.

Father, raise up rulers over us in the Church and in the nation who will do justice and mercy and rule in fear of you.

"And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.'" (2 Samuel 23:4)
Holy Spirit, let your tender mercies come upon us: revive us and refresh us with your Holy Spirit; let your light come upon us.

"Although my house is not so with God, yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; will he not make it increase?" (2 Samuel 23:5)
Father, bring my home and my family into your good order.

"But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands." (2 Samuel 23:6)
Jesus, protect us and our family from the sons of rebellion who you shall thrust away.

"But the man who touches them must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, and they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place. " (2 Samuel 23:7)
Father, arm us and clothe us with your full armor:
Father, please put on all of us the shoes of the preparation to share the gospel of peace; gird our loins with your truth; put on us the breastplate of righteousness, and the helmet of salvation. Place on our arm the shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the evil one; and place in our hand the sword of your Spirit which is your word; that having stood all, we might yet stand. Finally, help us to be strong in Jesus and in the power of his might, and cast off from us the chains of apathy that keep us from speaking boldly as we ought to speak. Thank you. (See Ephesians 6:10-20)

A word received: Come to me. Let me be your guide.

A few of you got this but I think everyone should know about this. Spread the word, contact Beth, pass around any information. You never know who the Lord might call to this if they know about it.

Subject: Madagascar Mission Trip 2012
Hi all,
I am sending out this note to try to start the process of investigating the possibility of a mission trip to Madagascar in 2012. If you are receiving this it is because I have received your name from Bishop Todd and Patsy McGregor or from Ed McNamara. I have included Linda Stevens because I had heard that there were some parishioners at St. John's in Troy that have expressed an interest. If I have anyone's name by mistake, please let me know so that I can discontinue sending these emails to you.
I think that it might be best to try and have an organizational meeting ASAP if travel might be next August or next fall. A burning question is approximately how much will this cost? Ed has estimated that the cost for a 10 day trip would be about $3900 – airfare, hotel, food, miscellaneous (which I believe includes a possible day or two of sightseeing). OK – you can get up off the floor now. It will certainly take some fundraising. The trip takes about 20 hours from JFK airport with a 2 hour layover in Paris to get to Antananarivo, Madagascar, where we would spend the night and then go on to Toliara the next day. (I'm a bit sketchy on this Ed so feel free to correct me.)
I have attached a Short Term Mission Kit that is put together by People Reaching People (PRP) which is the organization that supports the McGregors and their mission work in Madagascar. I hope that it will provide some information that will be helpful in your prayer and discernment process. Ed McNamara, the Masons, Mtr. Laurie Garramone-Rohr and I met with the McGregors at the Diocesan Convention last June to discuss some preliminary ideas and if I recall the discussion correctly, there was a leaning toward a medical and teaching focus for this mission. Please correct me, attendees, if I heard that incorrectly or if you would like to add some comments.
If any of you has already started planning for a trip to Madagascar, please let me know so that the rest of us can come up to speed with you. This group is spread from South New Berlin to Potsdam, so meeting in a central location might be a problem. Clergy – Are you coming to the Clergy Conference at the CtK SLC September 28-30? That might be the best opportunity to get everyone together. If you are not clergy and you are coming from far away and would be able to come on one of those dates, I have a couple of spare bedrooms in the rectory in Greenwich just 5 minutes from the CtK SLC. We do have one clergy person who is interested in joining us who is in the Diocese of Mississippi - Mtr. Catherine Rickett. That would be a long trip, but perhaps we can Skype Mtr. Catherine in on the meeting.
I am sure that I have missed some very important points, but let's start a dialogue. When you respond, please hit REPLY ALL so that everyone can be privy to comments and suggestions.
Blessings,
Beth
