5/24/2012, #50, 2nd Quarter 2012

(Blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India:)

May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with us in our going out and our coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.

May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver us from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.

May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver us.

And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with us this day and always. Amen.

Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep. (Zechariah 4:1)

Awaken us, Lord, out of the slumber we are in. Renew in us the fire of your Holy Spirit to share the gospel and make disciples.

And he said to me, "What do you see?" So I said, "I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left." So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, "What are these, my lord?" (Zechariah 4:2-4)

Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear and hearts to respond.

Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord." (Zechariah 4:5)

Jesus, speak to us -- speak to our hearts.

So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6)

Holy Spirit, we keep doing the same stupid stuff over and over again because we depend upon our own stremgth. Help us daily turn to you for your might and power.

'Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'" (Zechariah 4:7)

Father, the mountains of challenges and troubles that rise up before us seem so high, but with you help and guidance we can find the way through them.

Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying: (Zechariah 4:8 )

Father, let your living word come to us.

"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands shall also finish it. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. (Zechariah 4:9)

Jesus, make us into a temple of praise.

For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the LORD, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth." (Zechariah 4:10)

Father, we pray for your little ones -- for the lost and the least -- help us repent of ever despising your little ones. Please give us shepherds hearts to go and seek them out.

A word received: Don't be afraid.

***** Diocesan Intercessions Daily: For our Bishop and for Spiritual Vitality in every Parish, May 24 The Rev’d Edgar LaCombe

***** Start now reading and reflecting on the lessons for next Sunday so that you can receive all that God has for you (104:25-37 or 104:25-32 or 33:12-15,18-22; Acts 2:1-11 or Isaiah 44:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 or Acts 2:1-11; John 20:19-23 or John 14:8-17).

***** I strongly recommend the book Miraculous Movments by Jerry Trusdale © 2012. It is in paperback and Kindle. While the theme of the book is the hundreds of thousands of Muslims who are turning to Jesus, the real focus of the book is on how to effectively disciple non-Christians and bring them into a living relationship with Jesus where they will lead others to Christ. It is one of the most exciting books Jean and I have read in several years. Torre

The band aid is ripped off again and again. Until we notice that there is no wound under it. In fact we notice that the wound is healed.

Subject: Public Prayer Mail for May 24

Dear praying friends, This is our public prayer mail for this week.

Thanksgivings:

      1) Julie and I served at two locations on Sunday. Julie was at Grace Church in Waterford, and I was at Christ Church, Schenectady.

      2) Our visit to Belize is settling down into the first part of July. I am working with the Commission on Ministry in Belize, creating a structure and a plan for online courses. I am finalizing an questionnaire to familiarize myself with the students' online background.

      3) Lydia came home.

Prayer requests:

      1) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, we will be making a presentation and concelebrating at Trinity, Watervliet. Pray that we do all to the glory of God.

      2) Prayer for our time at Diocesan Convention. If you are trying to catch up with us, we plan a booth and will also be teaching a workshop (Sharing the Good News: Mission Field Dos and Don'ts), at 2:30 pm, June 8 (Convention Friday), Jelinek 1A. It could be an important workshop to help someone prepare for mission trips, whether they are planning to go on a long or short term mission trip. As we travel from parish to parish in the Diocese of Albany, I find also that some of the observations apply to international business travelers as well as to the experienced missionaries whom we encounter. Pray that the Lord would bring the people he would want to attend this workshop, and that we would pass along what the Holy Spirit would like people to know.

      3) Continued prayer about plans to teach theological college classes on-line, from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize, specifically.

      4) Continued prayers for healing. Sunday morning, I tripped and fell while preparing for services. Got a nasty scrape at the top of my head. At the time, I thought I was OK (miraculously I appeared to be, compared with possible alternatives), but in hindsight it is possible that I may have had a very mild concussion. Seeing that that was the situation, pray that my sermons were received the way they should have been on Sunday; I had a bit a trouble concentrating while delivering them because I had banged my head. I am on the mend, but still, your prayers for healing would be appreciated. In the meantime, I keep going.

      5) Prayer for discernment, provision, and guidance for our life as a whole.

Thank you for praying for us. Your prayers are very important us, and I pray for you every day. God bless you, In Christ, Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+ SAMS missionaries, as well as missionaries of the Diocese of Albany
