7/6/2013, #6, 3rd Quarter 2013
Speak to us, Lord, and help us respond as Ananias did: "Here I am, Lord."
So the Lord said to him, "Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight." (Acts 9:11-12)
Thank you for the guidance you gave Ananias, Jesus. Please show us whom we are to go to and pray with.
Then Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." (Acts 9:13-14)
Holy Spirit, help us get past our fears as you did with Ananias.
But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel of mine to bear my name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake." (Acts 9:15-16)
Jesus, you can use anyone for your kingdom purposes, even a murderer like Saul. Help us to be obedient to your call so that you kingdom is built up. Help us recognize that we, like Saul, may be called to suffer for your kingdom purposes.
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 9:17)
Holy Spirit, this is one of the amazing verses in Scripture to me: Ananias goes to him who had come to arrest him and says, "Brother Saul". Help us recognize the brothers and sisters you give us in Christ as Ananias did.
Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. (Acts 9:18 )
Lord, let the scales fall from our eyes and give us clarity of sight to see the things of the kingdom.
So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus. (Acts 9:19)
Thank you, LORD, for the willingness of the disciples in Damascus to receive Saul into their fellowship and for strengthening him for what lay ahead.
