Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. (Matthew 5:11)
Lord Jesus, we pray for your persecuted church around the world. Bless all those who are reviled and persecuted for the sake of your name.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:12)
Holy Spirit, please help us see things as you see them -- to know that our reward in heavenis greater than any suffering we might go through for the sake of Jesus. Help us to be exceedingly glad over the hope we share. Thank you.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. (Matthew 5:13)
Father, help us to be salt which gives flavor to the gospel message and draws other to you.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14)
Father, we want to be people filled with the light of the gospel message. Help us repent whenever we hide that light from those who walk in darkness.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. (Matthew 5:15)
Jesus, we pray for every household in this diocese that the light of the gospel will shine for in them.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Jesus, I commit myself once again to let your light shine forth through me to bring glory to my Father in heaven. Thank you for helping me do this by your Holy Spirit. I want to be light so that others will see the way to you.
