10/25/2013, #21, 4th Quarter 2013
Holy Father, help us keep in mind as we rebuild your church into a temple of praise and worship that there can be no other foundation which we can lay than Jesus Christ (see 1 Corinthians 3:10).
And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD: "For he is good, for his mercy endures forever toward Israel." Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. (Ezra 3:11)
Holy Spirit, give us this same passion to praise Jesus, for he is good and his mercy endures forever towards his people.
But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers' houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off. (Ezra 3:12-13)
Move our hearts to contrition and sorrow, Jesus, as we recall how far the Episcopal Church has fallen from the faith once for all delivered to the saints (see Jude 3).
Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to God our savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. (Jude 1:24-25)
