10/29/2013, #24, 4th Quarter 2013

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6)

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (Romans 8:13-17)

***** There is an amazing film entitled FINDING A FAMILY which you can watch on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGDfv58aOhs It is a true story. Pray for the children who "fall through the cracks" of the social welfare system.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' (Luke 10:33-35)
Jesus, please help us show our love for the Father by having compassion on his wounded children. Help us love our Father in heaven with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, with all our mind, and with all our time and resources. Thank you.

A word received: My people wait for me, but I AM waiting for them.

Subject: Montreal Retreat - Prayer Request
October 28, 2013, Feast of SS Philip and James, Apostles
Dearest Friends,
At the end of this week I will be leading a Men's Retreat in Montreal. I am asking for your prayers Tues-Thurs in preparation, and then on the actual days, Fri-Sun, November 1 - 3. And for those who can, the following 3 days, Mon-Wed for fruitfulness, a total of nine days. Many thanks for any prayer you can offer during that time.
I especially ask for prayer for openness to the Holy Spirit, a renewed love of Jesus, and a desire to (re)commit to living as a genuine disciple. I also ask for spiritual protection and a deepening trust in the Eternal Father.
      With deep appreciation,
In Christ, + Dan

      ===============================

(Monday, Oct. 28, 2013; 9:30-10:30 a.m. in front of our church at 37 Division Street. Cool and breezy, but sunny. Becky Hadley and Deacon Alan Hart presiding at His table today.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: We started a new aspect to the table today. All last winter we gave out free warm hats, socks and gloves to people who needed and wanted them, and we have already begun doing that this late fall. But today we added something new: non-perishable food items. Through the generosity of people in our parish, we plan every Monday now to put out cans of soup, boxes of pasta, boxes of mac and cheese, cans of tuna fish and cans of spaghetti sauce for whoever needs food. Sadly, we have witnessed that there is great hunger in our neighborhood, and St. Ann's intends to help fight that hunger and get food to people who need it. Today was a great start. We handed out a lot of food to grateful people. We also had some wonderful people decline the offer, saying instead "I am doing OK. Save it and give it to people who need it more than I do, because there are a lot of hungry people in Amsterdam." Isn't that wonderful?

MAN ON BICYCLE WHO STOPPED (No name) -- He said "I don't want any prayer or clothes or food, but ... God bless you for what you're doing!"

t -- ROB -- This man is a nurse who visits a man in his home. He saw our signs for free food and clothing and stopped his car right in the street and got out and asked for items of both food and clothes for a man he takes care of every day.

MIRIAM -- This woman asked for prayer for protection and good health and then gratefully took food She wept when we told her to take all she needed.

ETHEL -- This women is a regular at the table and spends most of her day delivering food from the soup kitchen across the street to needy friends and relatives. She is in her 80s. She asked for prayers for thanksgiving because she was told (by her nephew) that she can continue to live in his house and does not have to go elsewhere. She has been very worried about that.

DAVID -- Asked for prayer for his friend, DAKOTA, a blind woman.

REBECCA -- Came to the table for her sister LISA, who is four months pregnant with her third child. The baby is having complications already and doctors aren't sure she will be able to keep the baby.

PEOPLE IN ACCIDENT -- About 20 minutes before we closed the table, there was what looked like a bad accident on Route 30 South by the Verizon building. Someone ran a red light and hit a car coming down the hill. Police got on the scene quickly. We prayed for the lives and health of the people involved.
