11/16/2013, #42, 4th Quarter 2013

From that time Jesus began to show to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord; this shall not happen to you!" But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." (Matthew 16:21-23)
Jesus, please help us daily accept the reality that your solutions and agenda are often quite different from ours. Help us embrace the way you want to do things.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)
Holy Spirit, help me recognize and take up the cross Jesus has for me.

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 16:25)
Father, please help me give my life to Jesus for him to do with it what he wants.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26)
None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him--For the redemption of their souls is costly, (Psalm 49:7-8 )

For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each according to his works. (Matthew 16:27)
Jesus, Son of Man, I pray that my works will have been done in faith.

Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (Matthew 16:28 )
Holy Spirit, thank you for raising Jesus from the dead. Raise all of us in this diocese to new life in him. Thank you.

The Rev’d Mark Diebel

***** Please pray for the prayer table ministry.

***** St. Ann's Church (37 Division Street, Amsterdam) will celebrate our monthly Healing Eucharist on the 3nd Saturday of the month at 6pm, November 16. This service will begin with contemporary praise and worship music, Eucharist will be celebrated, and prayer will be offered for those in need of healing or any other needs.

***** Two excellent books on discipleship and evangelism:
      Miraculous Movements by Jerry Trousdale
The Father Glorified by Patrick Robertson and David Watson
Both are available as paperbacks and on Kindle. Both books show effective ways for ordinary Christians to share their faith in a compelling way.

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27:13-14)
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall rise up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
We thank You Lord that Fr. Shaw Mudge waits upon You and that You reward him by providing for his needs and sending your Holy Spirit for inspiration. Thank You for that faith that Father Shaw and all his intercessors will look upon your goodness and all the wonderful things that You do for us, in this land of the living. Thank You for the strength that You have given to Father Shaw and for his good heart and all his courage in exploring your plans for him.
We continue to pray for the on-line teaching program and the ordination process in Belize. And we pray for some advances in Tanzania, although we know that good things will happen in your time, Lord. Thank You. Amen.

Albany Intercessor
