1/20/2014, #19, 1st Quarter 2014

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:11)
Lord, all around us there are examples of disobedience; help us strive to put off the old man and enter into your rest.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Holy Spirit, on the Day of Pentecost thousands were cut to the heart (see Acts 2:37). Let there be a new Pentecost among us in this diocese whereby we too are cut to the heart and become new men and women.

And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13)
Father, you know our thoughts and our words even before we speak them (see Psalm 139:1-4). Send your Holy Spirit into our hearts and minds and cleans us of all unrighteousness.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (Hebrews 4:14)
Jesus, thank you for being our eternal priest. Help us bring many to a saving knowledge of you. Help us to be stead in the face of all temptation.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)
Jesus, thank you for enter into our manhood and knowing every temptation we face. Please help us in our hour of need.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Holy Spirit, help us come boldly to the throne of grace to find the help that only Jesus can give. Thank you.

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know your name will put their trust in you; for you, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:9-10)
LORD, I flee into your arms of love.

A word received: Remember how I have led you.
