4/13/2014, #8, 2nd Quarter 2014

Now they came to Jericho. As he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:46-47)
Holy Spirit, please help all who lack clarity of sight, whether physical or spiritual, call out to Jesus: "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Thank you for all those who come to the prayer tables in the diocese.

Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:48 )
Lord Jesus, don't let me be the one who tries to quiet someone calling out to you.

So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, "Be of good cheer. Rise, he is calling you." (Mark 10:49)
Jesus, in all my spiritual blindness, bid me come to you.

And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. (Mark 10:50)
Father, help me throw off anything that would hinder me coming to Jesus.

So Jesus answered and said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rabboni, that I may receive my sight." (Mark 10:51)
"Rabboni, that I may receive my sight."

Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. (Mark 10:52)
Holy Spirit, please help me follow wherever Jesus leads me.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 )
Jesus, renew me day by day so that I may set my sight on the things which are eternal. Thank you.

A word received: Ask me to heal your blindness.

Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." (Matthew 21:1-3)
Lord Jesus, help me surrender everything you have need of to your use.

All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "Tell the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.' " (Matthew 21:4-5)
Lord, come into my life more each day and fulfill your word in me.

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David! 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!' Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:6-9)
Holy Spirit, please help me join that throng crying out: "Hosanna to the Son of David! 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!' Hosanna in the highest!"

And when he had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, "Who is this?" So the multitudes said, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee." (Matthew 21:10-11)
Father, move this city as Jerusalem was moved. Let the river of your Spirit flow through our city and revive our churches and civic institutions. Thank you.

A word received: Look to me and not your circumstances.
