5/5/2014, #17, 2nd Quarter 2014

So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!" And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of bread. (Luke 24:33-35)
Lord Jesus, be known to us in the breaking of bread.

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 2:6)
Holy Spirit, please help us know that this Jesus who was crucified is both Lord and Christ.

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:7)
Father, let the words of the gospel cut us to the heart as you this with these.

Move our hearts, Lord, to ask this same question, "What are we to do?" Help us hear your answer.

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:8 )
LORD God, move our hearts to repentance as well, and help each of us to be immersed in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' And to the south, 'Do not keep them back!' Bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth -- everyone who is called by my name, whom I have created for my glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him." (Isaiah 43:5-7)
Father, bring all our children back into the sheepfold. Thank you.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Thank you, Father, for caring for us.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9)
Holy Spirit, please help us by our faith in Jesus to resist all the tricks and traps of the evil one.

But may the God of all grace, who called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 5:10-11)
Jesus, please help me daily come under your dominion. Thank you.

A word received: Rejoice with me, I AM risen from the dead.

***** St. Ann's Amsterdam Prayer Table

Deacon Alan -- Here are some photos taken this morning at our St. Ann's prayer table. Visiting us was Pam Miller of St. John's of Johnstown, who came by to pray with me and see what a Prayer Table is like. They are hopeful of getting one started at St. John's. One of the photos shows Pam praying with one of our visitors. Please know how much all your generous contributions of clothing and food are appreciated by the people who come.
