6/2/2014, #35, 2nd Quarter 2014

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. (Psalm 136:1)
Father, thank you for your goodness and mercy towards us. Thank you for your great love for us in sending your son Jesus to die for us.

Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. (Psalm 136:2)
Jesus, surely your goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives (see Psalm 23:6).

Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever: (Psalm 136:3)
Holy Spirit, thank you for your willingness to come into us while we were yet sinners and lead us to Jesus.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. (Psalm 138:7)
Jesus, thank you for stretching out your hand upon the cross to save us.

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. (Psalm 68:5)
Father, we meet so many young men and women at the prayer table who have never known their fathers. Have mercy on them and reveal your father's heart and love to them.

God sets the solitary in families; he brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. (Psalm 68:6)
Father, establish the families in this land as one man-one woman. There are so many young women out there raising families with no husband as a stable part of the family. Bring your provision into the life of those famililies. Thank you.

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. (Matthew 8:23-24)
Lord, there is a great tempest raging in the Episcopal Church and in the Anglican Communion, and we are afraid of being swamped in the storm.

Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" (Matthew 8:25)
      Lord Jesus, save us!

But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Matthew 8:26)
Holy Spirit, build up our faith and help us go forward in the storms and in the calm -- trusting Jesus.

So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" (Matthew 8:27)
Father, you have put all things under Jesus' feet -- even the wind and the waves obey him. Thank you.

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
      Amen and amen!

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)
Holy Spirit, give our parishes, the Commission on Ministry, the Standing Committee, and the Bishop discernment about whom you have called to ordained ministry.

A word received: Give me your burdens.

A word received: Come to me; come labor in my vineyard.
