8/4/2014, #4, 3rd Quarter 2014

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. (John 1:4)
Jesus, let your light penetrate and drive away the darkness that surrounds and attacks us.

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (John 1:5)
Jesus, let your light shine forth in my darkness and overcome it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. (John 1:6-9)
Holy Spirit help us bear witness to the light of Jesus as John did.

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:36-39)
Father, help us share the gospel in such a way that the Holy Spirit will move in people's hearts and bring them to repentance. Thank you.

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation." Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:40-47)
Holy Spirit, restore this apostolic life to your church today. Save us from this perverse generation.

Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; cause your face to shine, and we shall be saved! (Psalm 80:19)
      Restore us, LORD!

Psalm 80:19, WORD: Come to me and let me restore you.

***** Mudge Making a Difference Prayer Mail for Wed. August 6
Dear partners in prayer, This is our public prayer mail for August 6, The Transfiguration.
This week's selective overview:
Dates have been tentatively set for the first ordinations in Belize in several years, to sometime in late September.
I prepare for teaching my next on-line course, beginning in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, the transition to Connecticut continues as our new base of operations shifts. Julie has finished her CPE program in Hartford, CT, and now focuses primarily on the two hospitals in Rockville and Manchester.
Prayer requests:
      1) Pray for the mission work in Belize, the translation of the online course work into Spanish for Belize and surrounding countries, and the on-going work of the Spanish version of the Book of Common Prayer for the Church in the Province of the West Indies.
      2) Pray for my course preparation work for the next on-line course that I plan to teach, beginning August 30th and lasting to mid-October: "What God has been doing in Anglicanism" (Anglican Church History/Liturgy).
      3) Pray for our transition to Manchester over the course of the next few weeks, and for Julie's new responsibilities as staff hospital chaplain at two area hospitals. Pray for peace, effectiveness, love, joy, and creativity.
God bless you. In Christ, Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+ and Lydia.
I pray for you, everyday. Your prayers are making a difference. Thank you.
