There is an important meeting of the clergy of the diocese with Bishop Bill on Thursday, September 6th. Please pray about committing yourself to prayer and fasting for this meeting from 9 am to 4 pm on Wednesdays leading up to this meeting. Thank you.
John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. John 3:27 (NKJV)
Father, please help us receive what you have given us.
He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me get out of your way so that you can increase and do your work.
For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. John 3:34 (NKJV)
Lord, thank you for the generosity of your Holy Spirit.
And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!" But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:27-29 (NKJV)
Help us in this diocese to obey you, God, rather than men.
And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it--lest you even be found to fight against God." Acts 5:38-39 (NKJV)
Lord, many of the leaders of your church are fighting against you.
And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. Acts 5:40-41 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, as the Bishop and clergy prepare to meet on September 6th, help them rejoice that they have been counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus.
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. Acts 5:42 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help us never cease preaching you.
Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years. Judges 13:1 (NKJV)
LORD, your people have sinned and have been delivered into the hands of the Philistines.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day that I call, answer me speedily. Psalm 102:1-2 (NKJV)
LORD, hear my prayer and the prayers of my children and theirs.
To hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, Psalm 102:20 (NKJV)
LORD, hear the groaning of the prisoner.
Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also. Hebrews 13:3
O GOD, who spares when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remembers mercy; We humbly beseech you, of your goodness, to comfort and succour all prisoners [especially those who are condemned to die]. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your promises; that, trusting wholly in your mercy, they may not place their confidence anywhere but in you. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, awaken the guilty; and forasmuch as you alone bring light out of darkness, and good out of evil, grant to these your servants, that by the power of your Holy Spirit they may be set free from the chains of sin and death, and may be brought to newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [For Prisoners adapted from 1928 BCP.]
The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You." Psalm 102:28 (NKJV)
Jesus, establish our children before you.
A Word Received: Listen to me day by day.
