2018 11 09

Pray for a move of the Holy Spirit among the clergy at their retreat this week.

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! Luke 13:34 (NKJV)
Jesus, gather us in your arms.

A Word Received: Trust me to carry you through this time of trial and testing. Let me purify you and cleanse you of every false hope. Place your hope in me.

May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with the Diocese of Albany in our going out and our coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver the Diocese of Albany from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.
May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver us.
And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with the Diocese of Albany this day and always. Amen.
(Blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India:)

Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also. Hebrews 13:3
O GOD, who spares when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remembers mercy; We humbly beseech you, of your goodness, to comfort and succour all prisoners [especially those who are condemned to die]. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your promises; that, trusting wholly in your mercy, they may not place their confidence anywhere but in you. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, awaken the guilty; and forasmuch as you alone bring light out of darkness, and good out of evil, grant to these your servants, that by the power of your Holy Spirit they may be set free from the chains of sin and death, and may be brought to newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [For Prisoners adapted from 1928 BCP.]

Father, please put on all of us the shoes of the preparation to share the gospel of peace; gird our loins with your truth; put on us the breastplate of righteousness, and the helmet of salvation. Place on our arm the shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the evil one; and place in our hand the sword of your Spirit which is your word; that having stood all, we might yet stand. Finally, help us to be strong in Jesus and in the power of his might, and cast off from us the chains of apathy that keep us from speaking boldly as we ought to speak. Thank you. (See Ephesians 6:10-20)

How easy it is
for me to live with you, Lord.
How easy it is to believe in you
when my mind reels from not understanding,
or when my mind weakens--
when the most intelligent people cannot think
beyond the evening and do not know
what must be done tomorrow.
You convey to me the
lucid assurance that you exist,
that you will see to it that not all paths
toward good will be closed.
At the peak of earthly renown
I look back with amazement at
that road which by no stretch of the imagination
I could have devised--
A remarkable road through despair
which has led me here
where I too have been able
to send mankind
reflections of your rays--
As for what I
won't have time or ability for--
This means that you have
reserved it for others.
