2018 12 03

Please pray for Bishop Bill, the Standing Committee, and the clergy and laity of this diocese as we cope with the decisions of the Episcopal General Convention.

Please pray for vocations to the Sisters of St. Mary, the Daughters of the King, the healing ministry, the Franciscan Community of the Holy Cross, the Beaver Cross Staff, and the Diocesan staff.

Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him Luke 20:1 (NKJV)
Jesus, I pray that the gospel will be preached in all of our parishes.

and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?" Luke 20:2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, convert those who resist the gospel.

But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me: The baptism of John--was it from heaven or from men?" Luke 20:3-4 (NKJV)
That is still a relevant question today: is the call to seek repentance from God or man?

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet." So they answered that they did not know where it was from. Luke 20:5-7 (NKJV)
Father, so many of our elders give weasel-worded answers to Jesus' question.

And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things." Luke 20:8 (NKJV)
Lord, open the eyes and ears of our hearts.

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-4 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help us give thanks for our calling.

"Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. Isaiah 1:16-17 (NKJV)
Jesus, wash and cleanse us by your Holy Spirit.

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD." Psalm 122:1 (NKJV)
Help us rejoice as we enter your house, LORD. Thank you.

A Word Received: Look to me for help in the storm.
