Holy Spirit, help us recognize and shun those entertainments that lead us away from Jesus.

On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet: Zechariah 1:7
LORD, let your word come to us as well.
And the LORD answered the angel who talked to me, with good and comforting words. Zechariah 1:13

DEACON ALAN and DEACON MARYCAROL -- Reporting in on the weekly neighborhood ministries of Prayer Table on our lawn and Services From the Reserved Sacrament at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for Monday, November 4th. Good things to report on both ministries.
Prayer Table -- A crisp, autumn morning but with no rain to hinder us, so the table was set up outside on the lawn in front of our church on Division Street. We had six people come by (double last week's total) for the free, non-perishable food and the free, clean and used clothing we offer. Three women received prayer. Two Spanish-only speaking women requested anointing and prayer (no names given) and EBONY asked for anointing and prayer for a private concern. The Lord knows the details.
MCCF -- We had 14 men and one woman attend the four pod services this week. Volunteer Jeff Newell went with Deacon MaryCarol to the women's pod to help minister to the one woman who attended. She speaks limited English and since Jeff is fluent in Spanish, he was able to help with the translation needed for the lone attendee. Though attendance has been down lately (there have been many inmates released in recent weeks), the services have been lively with inmates being very eager, attentive and taking part by reading and joining in discussions about the readings. One man was especially touched by the Luke gospel reading where Jesus told the people to "Love your enemies ... pray for those who abuse you." He told us that a few years ago he was beaten by some gang members in his village and that at first he wanted immediate revenge. But he said a policeman advised him to forgive and forget. That's what he did. "Years later," he said, "I feel better about how I handled it all back then. I forgave them, and I like to think that someday if they find themselves in that position I was in, they also will forgive." Another man in a different pod said he believes the whole point of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is about being content and not wanting more than you need. "I mean, I'm here in jail and at a very low point in my life," the man said. "But still ... I wake up every morning and I get out of bed and I thank God for the air I'm breathing and a second chance at life."
The following inmates asked for your intercessory prayers for themselves and indicated loved ones: Rob (and Derek, Mykenzie, Penelope, Robert and Jackie), Name withheld (Jeremy, the Rossi family, Harmony), Addie (and Lynne), Name withheld (Scott's aunt, Cathy), Jayce (AnnaMae, Kristian, Martin, Abby, Desurae, Ellie, Calvin, Jaclyn), Mike (Diane, Haley, Melissa, Hector, Dominique), No name (Zidra, Boyd and Paris.)
Thank you for your intercessory prayers and your wonderful support of these ministries. May the Lord bless all of you in abundance this week!
