And Can it be That I should Gain
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; James 1:19 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me speak when I should speak and be silent when it is time for that in your sight.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me do your word. Help me get off the sidelines and into the fray.
11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? James 4:11-12 (NKJV)
Father, help us refrain from speaking evil of one another in this time of division.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:5-8 (NKJV)
Lord, we cannot tame our tongues by our own strength. We ask for the help and control that only your Holy Spirit can give us.
6 So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, I can control my tongue only by your help. Lord, come upon me with your power.
1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven... And a time to speak; Ecclesiastes 3:1...7b (NKJV)
LORD, teach my heart and tongue to obey your promptings - to speak only as you lead me.
3 A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; Ecclesiastes 3:3 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring us to a time of healing and building up. Thank you.
O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing (Hymn with words and music) - Charles Wesley
A Word Received: Give me your tongue. Let my Holy Spirit guide your speaking. Let me have the last word.
