8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8 (NKJV)
For about 17 years we ran a prayer table in front of Christ Church in the inner city of Schenectady (known as "the Hill"). Whenever I sensed that someone was burdened by sin or guilt I would ask them if they would like to give their burden or sin to the Jesus. Almost always when there was that nudge from the Spirit, the answer was "Yes". I would then lead them in confessing their sin or burden to Jesus. Once they had done that I would lead them in accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviorl Then I would show them 1 John 1:9 and explain to them that because they had confessed their sins to Jesus that they were now CLEAN. So often this would be followed by a look of stunned wonder. On the Hill to be told that you are clean is a really powerful statement.

9 Then Naaman went with his horses and chariot, and he stood at the door of Elisha's house. 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean." 11 But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, "Indeed, I said to myself, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.' 12 Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. 13 And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?" 14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. 2 Kings 5:9-14 (NKJV)
LORD, we have to come to you on your terms and not our own.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10-11 (NKJV)
     Holy Spirit, cleanse my heart.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Psalm 51:12 (NKJV)
Jesus, restore to us the joy of your salvation.

2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8:2-3 (NKJV)
     Jesus, Lord, make us clean

4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Luke 11:4a (NKJV)
Father, help me forgive others so that I may be forgiven.

41 But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you. Luke 11:41 (NKJV)
Father, help us give ourselves to you so that we may be made clean.
