But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
Lord Jesus, help me to be a disciple who grows into the life of your Spirit with:

When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?" Jesus, the trials are grievous and the refining is painful, but don't stop now.

Revelation 20:4-6 (NKJV)
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Father, I give you my fears about how I shall die and I choose to live in the hope of the resurrection.
Joel 3:9-11 (NKJV)
9 Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near, let them come up. 10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, 'I am strong.' " 11 Assemble and come, all you nations, and gather together all around. cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD.

Lord, let it be said of me that I was born again in Zion.
Word: Look to me to establish you in my strength. You cannot do this in your own. Look to me with hope and expectation. I will do what you cannot.

Matthew 16:1-4 (NKJV)
Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said to them, "When it is evening you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red'; and in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them and departed.
Lord, we are a generation that seems unable to read the signs of the times and seeks a sign rather than seeking you. Have mercy on us.
Revelation 19:1 (NKJV)
After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!
Holy Spirit, please help us join in that great throng saying, "Alleluia!" to our God.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Jesus, Son of David, thank you for being my shepherd.

Jesus, thank you for times of rest and refreshment.
Psalm 23:3 (NKJV)
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Father, lead me in your righteous ways.
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Jesus, thank you for the comfort of your rod and staff gave me in the valley of the shadow of death.
Psalm 23:5 (NKJV)
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Holy Spirit, thank you for your anointing.

2015 11 11 Remembrance Day
Matthew 15:30 (NKJV)
Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus' feet, and He healed them.
Jesus, help me bring all the wounded places in my life to you for healing.
Matthew 15:36 (NKJV)
And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude.
Holy Spirit, multiply my loaves and fishes so that others may be fed.
Matthew 15:37 (NKJV)
So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left.
Jesus, gather up the fragments of my life so that nothing is lost. Thank you.
Nehemiah 8:3 (NKJV)
Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.
Holy Spirit, help us hear your word with understanding and be attentive to your word.
Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
LORD, help me walk by the light of your word.

LORD, heal my affliction and sorrow, and revive me.
Psalm 119:120 (NKJV)
My flesh trembles for fear of You, and I am afraid of Your judgments.
Luke 18:9-14 (NKJV)
Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Father, give me a heart like that of the tax collector.
Word: I tell you that the tax collector was justified in my sight. Blessed are those who mourn, for the shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) Pray for hearts that mourn before me for their sins. Pray for hearts like the penitent theif on the cross who in his hour of greatest need turn to me and said, "Remember me when yhou come into your kingdom." (Luke 23:42)

Matthew 15:21-28 (NKJV)
Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
Jesus, I accept whatever crumbs fall from your table. You know my needs -- none better. Please do what is best in your eyes for me.
Psalm 78:2-3 (NKJV)
I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
Holy Spirit, help me to be faithful in telling the next generation of your praise and your works.
Psalm 78:5-7 (NKJV)
For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; that the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments;
Father, establish Sunday Schools and youth ministries throughout this diocese so that the youth will set their hope in you.
Psalm 78:36-38 (NKJV)
Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, and they lied to Him with their tongue; for their heart was not steadfast with Him, nor were they faithful in His covenant. But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath;
Jesus, forgive us our iniquity and help us turn back to you with undivided hearts. Thank you.
Word: Look to me, my people, in your hour of need. Look to me for mercy and peace, even in the midst of your sin. I died for you while you were yet sinners.

Matthew 15:1-9 (NKJV)
Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.' But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God"-- then he need not honor his father or mother.' Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' "
Holy Spirit, help us recognize our own hypocrisy and repent of it.
Matthew 15:12-15 (NKJV)
Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?" But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch." Then Peter answered and said to Him, "Explain this parable to us."
Jesus, help us cease from fearing to offend when you are leading us.
Nehemiah 9:16-17 (NKJV)
"But they and our fathers acted proudly, hardened their necks, and did not heed Your commandments. They refused to obey, and they were not mindful of Your wonders that You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion they appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them.
Father, I fear that the Episcopal Church has appointed a leader to lead us back into bondage, but you are merciful and ready to pardon; do not forsake us.
Psalm 80:1-2 (NKJV)
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, stir up Your strength, and come and save us!
Come and save us, O Shepherd of Israel.
Psalm 80:8-9 (NKJV)
You have brought a vine out of Egypt; you have cast out the nations, and planted it. You prepared room for it, and caused it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
Jesus, help us take deep root in you in this diocese.
Word: I want you to be gentle gardeners of the young Christian plants I have placed among you. Nourish them and care for them.

Mark 12:41-44 (NKJV)
Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."
"Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3) Jesus, help me know my poverty before you so that I may give in such a way that I enter the riches of heaven.
Hebrews 9:27-28 (NKJV)
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
"I know that my redeemer lives, and he shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me!" (Job 19:25-27)
1 Kings 17:13-16 (NKJV)
And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.' " So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah.
Father, thank you for the faithfulness of your word to Elijah and to the widow of Zaraphath and to us.
Psalm 146:5 (NKJV)
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Holy Spirit, help me enter into the joy of those who have the God of Jacob for their hope and their help.
Word: I have walked with you all these years. You have never been alone.

Matthew 14:22 (NKJV)
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
Jesus, please help me respond immediately when you bid me do something.
Matthew 14:27 (NKJV)
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid."
Holy Spirit, write Jesus' words on my heart and set me free from fear.
Matthew 14:29 (NKJV)
So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
Lord, help me come when you call me.
Revelation 17:14 (NKJV)
These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."
Jesus, you are the Lamb of God; overcome the evil that surrounds us and be our Lord of lords and King of kings.
Psalm 76:11 (NKJV)
Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay them; Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.
LORD our God, help us keep our vows to you.
Word: Speak my word that I give you.

Matthew 14:16 (NKJV)
But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
Jesus, show me when and how to do this.
Revelation 15:2-4 (NKJV)
And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your judgments have been manifested."
Holy Spirit, help me join in that great chorus singing the praises of God.
Ezra 8:21-23 (NKJV)
Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, "The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him." So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.
Father, carry us the whole distance with your protecting hand upon us.
Psalm 69:1-3 (NKJV)
Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary with my crying; my throat is dry; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.
Father, hear the cry of my heart.
Psalm 69:5-6 (NKJV)
O God, You know my foolishness; and my sins are not hidden from You. Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me; let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.
Lord, you know my folly, cover my sins with your blood.
Psalm 69:35-36 (NKJV)
For God will save Zion And build the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it. Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it, and those who love His name shall dwell in it.
LORD, I love your name, grant that I may dwell with you.
Word: Rest in me. Rest in my arms oflove. Lay your burdens at my feet.

Matthew 14:7-9 (NKJV)
Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, "Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter." Holy Spirit, guide me in the oaths and vows I make so that they accord with your will.

Matthew 13:57-58 (NKJV)
So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house." Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Holy Spirit, show us how we are taking offense at what Jesus is saying to us and why our ministry lacks the mighty deeds Jesus could do.
Revelation 12:10-11 (NKJV)
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Jesus, let you power come among us so that the accuser of our brethren is cast down and is overcome by your blood and the word of their testimony. Help us love you more than life itself.

Matthew 13:44-46 (NKJV)
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to joyfully give all to gain the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 13:52 (NKJV)
Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old."

Nehemiah 12:40,43 (NKJV)
So the two thanksgiving choirs stood in the house of God, likewise I and the half of the rulers with me... Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and the children also rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard afar off.
LORD, fill our churches with thanksgiving choirs so that young and old may rejoice in you.
Nehemiah 12:44 (NKJV)
And at the same time some were appointed over the rooms of the storehouse for the offerings, the firstfruits, and the tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and Levites who ministered.
Jesus, help me bring in the first fruits of my life to you.
Psalm 61:1-2 (NKJV)
Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Jesus, you are my rock -- lead me to you by your Holy Spirit.
Psalm 62:8 (NKJV)
Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

Matthew 13:41-42 (NKJV)
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Holy Spirit, set us free from lawlessness.
Judges 21:25 (NKJV)
In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Jesus, we ask you to be king of our hearts and set us free from the tyranny of self-indulgence.
Matthew 13:43 (NKJV)
Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Jesus, let the righteous among us shine forth to be our light in the darkness.
Psalm 56:10-11 (NKJV)
In God (I will praise His word), in the LORD (I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
O God, you are my trust and my hope. I will not fear.
Psalm 58:11 (NKJV)

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Holy Spirit, help us recognize our poverty of spirit.
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
Thank you, Jesus, for the friends you have given me to mourn with me. I pray for those who mourn alone.
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Thank you, Father, for all those who have gone humbly to their deaths to testify to the gospel.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Jesus, please give us such a hunger and thirst for your righteousness that our wills will be transformed.
Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
Jesus, please help us show forth your mercy, even to those who have no mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
Holy Spirit, please bring us to purity of heart so that we may see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
Holy Spirit, help us bring the peace of Jesus to our communities and neighborhoods.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Father, help us always remember those who are persecuted for righteousness sake.
"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
Holy Spirit, give me a will to turn the other cheek.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Jesus, help me rejoice in being numbered in that great company of witnesses who have given the lives to you.
Revelation 7:9-12 (NKJV)
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen."
