And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. Luke 6:19 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, help us by your Holy Spirit to reach out and touch you so that your power would go out from you to heal us.

Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. Luke 6:20 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me bless the poor among us.

Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Luke 6:21a (NKJV)
Jesus, fill me up with your presence, for I am hungry for more of you.

Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. Luke 6:21b (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, return me to laughter; help me put off mourning.

Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. Luke 6:2 (NKJV)
For the sake of your name Jesus, help me endure everything.

Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets. Luke 6:23 (NKJV)
Father, when the day of evil comes, help me to rejoice in you and put all things in your hand.

But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation. Luke 6:24 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see the opportunities you give me to help others.

Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Luke 6:25 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me let go of what is temporary and fleeting and grab on to what is eternal.

Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets. Luke 6:26 (NKJV)
Jesus, they spoke well of you and then killed you; help me follow where you lead.

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth-- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:1-3 (NKJV)
LORD, set my feet uupon the rock and put a new song in my mouth -- praise to you our God.

I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly. Psalm 40:10 (NKJV)
LORD, help me openly declare your righteousness.

Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!" Psalm 40:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me love and proclaim your salvation.

A word received: Wait on me for my redemption.

When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." Luke 5:4-5 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, at your word I am willing to launch out into the deep.

For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. Luke 5:9-11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us forsake all in order to become fishers of men.

Now it happened on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the grainfields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands. And some of the Pharisees said to them, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?" Luke 6:1-2 (NKJV)
Father, preserve us from seeking to find fault with other disciples.

And He said to them, "The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." Luke 6:5 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me get your view of keeping the Sabbath.

And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Luke 6:10 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me bring forth the wounded parts of my life into the open for Jesus to heal.

Hear the word of the LORD, you children of Israel, for the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land. By swearing and lying, killing and stealing and committing adultery, they break all restraint, with bloodshed upon bloodshed. Hosea 4:1-2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, we have lost all restraint; help us heed the charges against us for our sins.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)
LORD, so many among us have rejected knowledge of you and preach their own agenda rather than the gospel.

For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth. Psalm 26:3 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me walk in your truth.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. Psalm 130:1-2 (NKJV)
LORD, hear our cries for this nation.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. Psalm 130:5 (NKJV)
LORD, help us hear your word and restore hope in us.

A word received: Seek me; pursue me; abide in my word and Spirit. There is no other way; all other doors are closed to you.

After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." Luke 5:27 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me answer your call when you say to me, "Follow me."

And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, "Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." Luke 5:30-32 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for calling me.

"And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved." Luke 5:37-38 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us find those new wineskins in the life of your church to carry what you are doing among us.

From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. And when they had come to him, he said to them: "You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:17-21 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help us hold back nothing of the gospel of Christ that would help others.

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me testify with joy in the ministry you have given me.

Then the LORD said to me, "Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans." Hosea 3:1 (NKJV)
Father, help us live out your prophetic words to us.

Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who by night stand in the house of the LORD! Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. Psalm 134:1-2 (NKJV)
LORD, I lift up my hands to praise you.

A word received: Be at peace, rest in my arms

"Tradition may be defined as an extension of the franchise. Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about. All democrats object to men being disqualified by the accident of birth; tradition objects to their being disqualified by the accident of death. Democracy tells us not to neglect a good man's opinion, even if he is our groom; tradition asks us not to neglect a good man's opinion, even if he is our father. I, at any rate, cannot separate the two ideas of democracy and tradition; it seems evident to me that they are the same idea. We will have the dead at our councils. The ancient Greeks voted by stones; these shall vote by tombstones. It is all quite regular and official, for most tombstones, like most ballot papers, are marked with a cross." Orthodoxy by G. K. When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." Luke 5:4-5 (NKJV)
Lord, I am willing to launch out into the deep at your word.

So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. Luke 5:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me forsake all to follow Jesus.

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 (NKJV)
Jesus, I pray for myself and for all you have called to ministry that we may finish our race with joy in testifying to the gospel of the grace of God.

For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Acts 20:29-30 (NKJV)
Father, have mercy on your flock, for savage wolves have come in among us.

I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " Acts 20:35 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us give freely of ourselves.

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her. I will give her her vineyards from there, and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, as in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. Hosea 2:14-15 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring your church back to you. You are our doorway of hope.

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:9-10 (NKJV)
Jesus, I seek you; I desire you to have control of my life.

Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, O LORD, that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Psalm 9:19-20 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help the candidates to know that they are but men.

But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works. Psalm 73:28 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me by your Holy Spirit to be a faithful witness.

A word received: Clothe yourself with my armor.

Father, please put on all of us the shoes of the preparation to share the gospel of peace; gird our loins with your truth; put on us the breastplate of righteousness, and the helmet of salvation. Place on our arm the shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the evil one; and place in our hand the sword of your Spirit which is your word; that having stood all, we might yet stand. Finally, help us to be strong in Jesus and in the power of his might, and cast off from us the chains of apathy that keep us from speaking boldly as we ought to speak. Thank you. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it." Matthew 13:44-46 (NKJV)
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim Elliot, martyr who entered into glory January 8, 1956, age 28, in an attempt to bring the gospel to the Waodani people of Ecuador.

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away." Matthew 13:47-48 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me cast away what is worthless in my life to gain what is good in you.

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. James 3:10 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me control what comes out of my mouth.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. James 3:13 (NKJV)
Lord, bring me to the "meekness of wisdom".

And she conceived again and bore a daughter. Then God said to him: "Call her name Lo-Ruhamah, for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, but I will utterly take them away. Hosea 1:6 (NKJV)
LORD, there comes a day when we so transgress against you will that will make an end of us. Have mercy on this nation; for we have gone against your word and your will.

Say to your brethren, 'My people,' and to your sisters, 'Mercy is shown.' Hosea 2:1 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us speak these words of hope to your people.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; Psalm 19:7 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, convert my soul and give me wisdom.

Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19:12-13 (NKJV)
Cleanse me, Jesus, and keep me from presumptuous sin.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NKJV)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Psalm 46:1-3 (NKJV)
Lord, set me free from fear of circumstances; for I know that you will be with me through it all.

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. Psalm 46:4 (NKJV)

Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon's house. But Simon's wife's mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them. Luke 4:38-39 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, rebuke our illnesses so that we may serve you.

but He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent." Luke 4:43 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, let the kingdom of God be preached in every community in this region.

And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, "Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him." Acts 20:9-10 (NKJV)
Father, I fall asleep during sermons as well; bring me to new life in Jesus.

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Psalm 136:1 (NKJV)
Thank you, LORD, for your enduring goodness and mercy.

To Him who struck Egypt in their firstborn, for His mercy endures forever; and brought out Israel from among them, for His mercy endures forever; with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, for His mercy endures forever; to Him who divided the Red Sea in two, for His mercy endures forever; and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for His mercy endures forever; but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for His mercy endures forever; Psalm 136:10-15 (NKJV)
Father, overthrow all those rulers who would oppress you people.

To Him who led His people through the wilderness, for His mercy endures forever; Psalm 136:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, guide us through the wilderness times of our lives; help us follow you. Thank you, Lord, for your great mercy to us.

A word received: Listen to me. Pray for listening ears. Pray that you will be guided by what you hear from me. Pray for discernment of my word to you.

A Prayer of Confession for America from Daniel 9

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. (Daniel 9:3)
LORD, move our hearts to come before you in humility to pray.

And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and mercy with those who love him, and with those who keep his commandments, (Daniel 9:4)
LORD, please give us hearts made pure by confession. You are great and awesome and you keep your covenant and mercy with those who love you and keep your commandments. Help us walk in your ways.

we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from your precepts and your judgments. (Daniel 9:5)
Father, we in the America have sinned and committed iniquity and have done wickedly and rebelled by departing from your precepts and judgments.

Neither have we heeded your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. (Daniel 9:6)
Holy Spirit, we have ignored what you have said through your prophets who speak even now to the leaders of our nation.

O Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us shame of face, as it is this day--to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which you have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against you. (Daniel 9:7)
Jesus, we have sinned against your righteousness in this country because of the unfaithfulness which we have committed against you.

O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against you. (Daniel 9:8 )
O Lord, to us belongs shame of face: to our officials and church and lay leaders because we have sinned against you. Bring us back to you.

To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against him. (Daniel 9:9)
Jesus, you are fountain of mercy and forgiveness even though we have rebelled against you. Wash us clean by your blood.

We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. (Daniel 9:10)
LORD, we have not obeyed your voice; we have not walked in your laws which you have set before us by your servants the prophets in the Scriptures.

Yes, all Israel has transgressed your law, and has departed so as not to obey your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against him. (Daniel 9:11)
Yes, Father, America has transgressed your law and has departed from the words you have spoken; therefore we are under judgment because we have sinned against you. Have mercy on us for the sake of your son Jesus.

And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem. (Daniel 9:12)
Jesus, the present cultural wars in America are a sign of your great displeasure and judgment on us. Turn our hearts back to you and your ways.

As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand your truth. (Daniel 9:13)
Holy Spirit, please help us turn from our iniquities and understand your truth so that we cry out to you in Spirit and in Truth.

Therefore the LORD has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works which he does, though we have not obeyed his voice. (Daniel 9:14)
Jesus, the division and discord in America are a sign of our disobedience to your word; help us return to your righteousness ways.

And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made yourself a name, as it is this day--we have sinned, we have done wickedly! (Daniel 9:15)
Father, bring us out of the house of bondage as you did the children of Israel -- we have sinned, we have done wickedly!

O Lord, according to all your righteousness, I pray, let your anger and your fury be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people are a reproach to all those around us. (Daniel 9:16)
Lord, in your righteousness, let your anger and your fury be turned away from America; because for our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, America and your people are a reproach to all those around us.

Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord's sake cause your face to shine on your sanctuary, which is desolate. (Daniel 9:17)
Father, hear the prayer of your servants and for Jesus' sake cause your face to shine on your sanctuary which is desolate.

O my God, incline your ear and hear; open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name; for we do not present our supplications before you because of our righteous deeds, but because of your great mercies. (Daniel 9:18 )
O my God, incline your ear and hear, open your eyes and see our desolation, and the church which is called by your name; our righteousness is as filthy rags but we plead your great mercy.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for your own sake, my God, for your city and your people are called by your name. (Daniel 9:19)
O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for your own sake, my God, for your church and your people are called by your name.

And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority. Luke 4:32 (NKJV)
Jesus, I pray that your word will have authority with us.

Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands. Acts 19:26 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us repent of worshiping the works of our hands.

And in every province and city, wherever the king's command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday. Then many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them. Esther 8:17 (NKJV)
Father, help us to have feasts and celebrations to mark the mighty works of salvation you have wrought for us in your son Jesus.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 (NKJV)
Father, help me abide under your shadow.

A Psalm. A song for the Sabbath day. It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; Psalm 92:1 (NKJV)
Thank you, LORD, for all that you have done for me and Jean.

They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing, Psalm 92:14 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me bear fruit in old age.

A word received: You are in my care; don't be afraid. Give your fears to me. I will deliver you.

Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. Luke 4:14 (NKJV)
Jesus, return among us in the power of your Spirit and come through this whole region.

So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD." Luke 4:16-19 (NKJV)
Jesus, come and fulfill this among us in our day.

Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches." Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:13-16 (NKJV)
Just using your name is not sufficient; we have to have a relationship with you, Jesus. Holy Spirit, help us daily grow in that relationship with Jesus.

Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Psalm 85:4 (NKJV)
LORD, we have walked after many false gods in our day; restore us and save us.

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. Psalm 86:5 (NKJV)
LORD, hear our cries to you.

Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. Psalm 86:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, give me an undivided heart.

St. Ann's Amsterdam Prayer Table Report -- (Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, 10-11 a.m. on the lawn in front of our church on Division Street. James Bryant and Deacon Alan presiding at His table on this muggy, humid morning.) --- PRAYER CONCERNS:

Please join us in praying for CONSUELA, a woman who has seen remarkable healing as she has battled a serious illness for two years now. She frequently comes for Holy Oil and a prayer with her caregiver BELINDA, who also asked for prayer. (She said to Deacon Alan holding the oil stock, "Give ME some of that, too, please!")...l

We prayed a blessing for baby MIA, and a minute or so later another young mother brought two young boys to us for a similar blessing.

We prayed that both DANTE and HAYDEN would come to know and love the Lord. ...

ANGELO, a frequent visitor to the table and also to our monthly Community Meals, came specifically for prayer. This man has been coming to the table for food and clothing for quite awhile, but only in the last half-year or so has begun to trust the prayer aspect. He is a prime example for us to remember to never give up on praying for people, because sometimes it takes awhile to gain their trust and that we don't want or expect anything from them in return.

SCENES -- There were only about 20-25 people today, due to the fact that the weekly meal at the Masonic Temple is not in operation at present. This is because a person drove their car into the right side of the building and caved in the wall there. ... Despite the lesser numbers of people, we still gave out a great deal of clothing and ALL the non-perishable food we offer. Both the clothing and food are free. ...

Please keep ETHEL in your prayers. She is the older woman who walks all over the city delivering food items to family and friends. She is having a lot of hip pain, making it hard for her to walk.

being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' " Luke 4:2-4 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me confront temptation as Jesus did: by living in your word.

Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13 (NKJV)
Jesus, show me how to confront temptation in the "opportune times" when I am vulnerable.

And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Acts 19:6 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me speak and pray according to your mind.

But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. Acts 19:9 (NKJV)
Father, help us recognize when it is time to withdraw in the face of willful unbelief.

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Psalm 91:3-4 (NKJV)
LORD, you are my shield of faith.

In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:12 (NKJV)
LORD, bear me up in your hands.

With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation." Psalm 91:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, show me your salvation, and help me show others.

For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest On the land allotted to the righteous, Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity. Psalm 125:3 (NKJV)
LORD, bring us to your righteousness so that the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on us. Guide us in voting in November.

John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Luke 3:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, come and baptize us afresh with your Holy Spirit and with fire.

"His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." Luke 3:17 (NKJV)

A word received (11/18/06) Pray for the day of my threshing. Pray that none of the wheat will be lost with the chaff. Pray for my little ones who are being led astray by lies. Pray for my will to be done.

Please burn away all the chaff in our lives and help us bear fruit worthy of repentance.

And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased." Luke 3:22 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for sending your beloved son to us. Help us enter into your pleasure day by day.

After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples. Acts 18:23 (NKJV)
Lord, send your apostolic witnesses among us to strengthen us.

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. Acts 18:24-25 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, anoint men and women among us who can explain the ways of God more accurately.

Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. Psalm 99:9 (NKJV)
LORD, help us worship you day by day.

while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. Luke 3:2 (NKJV)
LORD, let your word come to your people in our day.

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, Luke 3:3 (NKJV)
I pray for preaching of repentance throughout this region.

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Luke 3:8 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me bear fruit worthy of repentance and put my hope in nothing less than what Jesus has done for me.

When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 18:5 (NKJV)
Jesus, help our clergy know that compulsion of your Spirit and preach that you are the Christ.

Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city." Acts 18:9-10 (NKJV)
Speak those words of encouragement to all your witnesses.

For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14 (NKJV)
Holy Father, help us discern the times when we are called to serve you at risk and go forward with prayer and fasting.

Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, LORD, and grant us Your salvation. Psalm 85:4-7 (NKJV)
LORD, in your mercy revive us.

I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly. Psalm 85:8 (NKJV)
Jesus, protect me from turning to folly.

"But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing," Matthew 6:3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me be more circumspect in the deeds I do.

"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." Matthew 6:6 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me pray according to the mind of your Spirit.

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; James 1:19 (NKJV)
Father, show me clearly when you want me to listen and when you want me to speak.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 (NKJV)
Jesus, I want to be a doer of your word.

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 (NKJV)
LORD, move our hearts to visit orphans and widows and to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. Take our feet out of the miry clay.

When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath. Esther 3:5 (NKJV)
Lord, preserve our political candidates from wrath and pride of place.

When Mordecai learned all that had happened, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city. He cried out with a loud and bitter cry. Esther 4:1 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, give us hearts to mourn every injustice.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 (NKJV)
God, you are my refuge and help in trouble.

Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar. He brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east; and there was water, running out on the right side. And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist. Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed. Ezekiel 47:1-5 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring me to that place in the river of your Spirit where I will have to take my feet off the bottom and be carried along by the river of your Spirit.

A word received: Come, join me in the river of my delight.

Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me." John 12:44-45 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for helping me meet and know your Father and his love for me. Father, thank you for adopting me as your child.

Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: Acts 17:22-23 (NKJV)
Father, being "very religious" doesn't buy you anything -- we have to surrender our lives to your son Jesus and live guided by your Holy Spirit.

The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them. Psalm 111:2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please give me a heart to study you and your ways.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. Psalm 111:10 (NKJV)
Father, help me fear you and hold you in holy awe so that I might gain wisdom and understanding of your commandments.

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Psalm 118:1 (NKJV)
LORD, I give you thanks in the midst of my confusion and grief. Thank you for your enduring mercy.

It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. Psalm 118:8 (NKJV)
LORD, help me place my trust in you, even when the circumstances are bad.

A word received: Surrender the desires of your heart to me.

Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them." John 12:39-40 (NKJV)
Father, we too are a generation of hardened hearts, blinded eyes, and deaf ears; have mercy on us.

Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:42-43 (NKJV)
Strengthen the rulers of God's people to confess the truth of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too. Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king--Jesus." Acts 17:6-7 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, I pray that we would be worthy of such a charge: that we have turned the world upside down with our teaching and preaching of you. Jesus, help us proclaim your kingship.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. Acts 17:16 (NKJV)
Holy Father, I pray that our spirits will also be provoked by the idolatry of our generation.

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus, to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him. Esther 1:10-12 (NKJV)
Lord, I pray that the women of our generation would refuse to be put on display for the entertainment of men.

A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1 (NKJV)
Thank you for forgiving my transgressions.

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Psalm 32:7 (NKJV)
Thank you, Jesus, for being my hiding place.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8 (NKJV)
LORD, teach us and guide us.

If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall on me," even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You. Psalm 139:11-12 (NKJV)
Jesus, you are my light in the surrounding darkness.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139:17-18 (NKJV)
Thank you for being with me morning by morning.

A word received: I have searched you and known you. Give your heart over to me day by day.

Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." John 12:35-36a (NKJV)
Jesus, help me walk by your light -- your word and your Holy Spirit. The surrounding darkness deepens; have mercy on me.

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Acts 16:25 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me join with Paul and Silas in singing and praising you, even in the hard times.

And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30 (NKJV)
Jesus, move thea hearts of jailers and prison guards throughout this land to ask this question.

So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." Acts 16:31 (NKJV)
Lord, help the guards and those they guard cross the line to salvation. Help us bring whole households into your kingdom.

For Prisoners.
O GOD, who spares when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remembers mercy; we humbly beseech you, of your goodness, to comfort and succour all prisoners [especially those who are condemned to die]. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your promises; that, trusting wholly in your mercy, they may not place their confidence anywhere but in you. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, awaken the guilty; and forasmuch as you alone bring light out of darkness, and good out of evil, grant to these your servants, that by the power of your Holy Spirit they may be set free from the chains of sin and death, and may be brought to newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

"Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also." Hebrews 13:3

But Paul said to them, "They have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out." Acts 16:37 (NKJV)
At any point Paul could have claimed the protection of his Roman citizenship and escaped the beating, and yet he did not. Holy Spirit, help me know when to speak and when to be silent.

"But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Job 28:12 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me seek for wisdom and understanding in you. Guide me by your Holy Spirit. Help me hold you in awe and holy fear.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, I give my fears to you.

One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4 (NKJV)
Father, let my home be a temple of your Spirit where I may dwell in your presence.

Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD! Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
      LORD, I wait on you.

Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved! Psalm 80:3 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, restore your church and your people

(Blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India:)
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with us in our going out and our coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver us from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.
May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver us.
And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with us this day and always. Amen.
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. John 12:24 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me die to myself so that I may produce a rich harvest.

And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, "These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe." Acts 16:20-21 (NKJV)
Jesus, let our teaching be in accord with the gospel and not with our culture.

And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. Acts 16:23-24 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for what Paul and Silas were willing to go through so that we might receive the gospel.

You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Job 42:3 (NKJV)
Father, forgive me for what I have said in ignorance.

Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. Job 42:12 (NKJV)
LORD, bless my latter days as well.

After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days. Job 42:16-17 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you that I too have seen four generations.

How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Selah Psalm 4:2 (NKJV)
Lord, we are a generation that has sought after worthlessness and falsehood; have mercy on us.

Walk about Zion, and go all around her. Count her towers; mark well her bulwarks; consider her palaces; that you may tell it to the generation following. For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death. Psalm 48:12-14 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us tell the next generation of your works. I trust you to guide me even to death.

Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus. John 12:9-11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, cleanse our hearts from plotting such evil to maintain our position.

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' The King of Israel!" John 12:12-13 (NKJV)
      Jesus, Lord, I bless you.

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!" John 12:19 (NKJV)
Father, please help us join in that great throng that follows after Jesus.

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. Acts 16:6-7 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us respond to your promptings to NOT do something.

So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them. Acts 16:8-10 (NKJV)
"They" becomes "we" as Luke joins in this ministry. Thank you for his witness..

And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." So she persuaded us. Acts 16:15 (NKJV)
Father, help us invite your witnesses into our homes.

Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is Mine. Job 41:11 (NKJV)
LORD, you are from everlasting and everything I have belongs to you.

O LORD my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. Psalm 30:2 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for hearing me when I cry out to you.

Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!" Psalm 30:10 (NKJV)
LORD, I need your help today.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me. Psalm 86:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, I trust you to answer when I call out to you.

Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. Psalm 86:11 (NKJV)
LORD, teach me your ways and your truth. Give me an undivided heart. Thank you.

Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me. Psalm 86:17 (NKJV)
Thank you for comforting me, Holy Spirit.

Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. John 12:3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us have the humility of Martha to pour out our thanksgiving to Jesus as she did.

So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. Acts 16:5 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us by words and deeds daily strengthen the church in faith and numbers.

"Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me: Job 40:7 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, prepare me for that day of examination.

"Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified? Job 40:8 (NKJV)

The LORD reigns; Let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad! Psalm 97:1 (NKJV)
LORD, thank you for your sovereignty. Thank you that you are in charge and not man.

You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. Psalm 97:10-12 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me despise evil and love good and walk in your light and rejoice in your righteousness.

He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalm 112:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, the times are evil, but I will not fear because I know that you are Lord of all.

A word received: I have blessed you in so many ways. Give me thanks, even in the hard times.

But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5:22 (NKJV)
Lord, we live in a day of great anger -- help us repent of this.

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Revelation 18:4-5 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, guide me in leaving behind what is harmful to me.

Who provides food for the raven, when its young ones cry to God, and wander about for lack of food? Job 38:41 (NKJV)
LORD, I only know that you are my provider.

"I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the baskets. You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah." Psalm 81:6-7 (NKJV)
LORD, as you freed Israel from the bondage of slavery in Egypt, free us in our day from the bondage of falsehood and party spirit.

He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap, that He may seat him with princes-- with the princes of His people. Psalm 113:7-8 (NKJV)
Father, raise your children up -- remember the poor and provide for them. Show us our part in their provision. Thank you.

A word received: Come to me all you who are burdened and heavily laden and I will refresh you.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation." John 11:47-48 (NKJV)
Lord, please help us repent of seeking our will and position in the face of what you are doing.

Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad. John 11:51-52 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for dying for me.

it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Acts 15:25 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, let our church councils be settled in one accord under your guidance.

Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. Acts 15:35 (NKJV)
Father, bring among us apostolic leaders who will preach the word of the Lord.

Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this. Job 38:18 (NKJV)
LORD, I claim no knowledge except what you have given me.

Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. Psalm 98:1 (NKJV)
Lord, win your victory in me.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. Psalm 138:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for the hope of revival.

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Psalm 138:8 (NKJV)
Jesus, perfect your work in me day by day.

A word received: Turn your heart to me. Trust me in all your ways.

Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died." John 11:32 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me fall down at Jesus' feet in my hour of need.

Jesus wept. John 11:35 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for weeping for us in our times of sorrow.

Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" John 11:40 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me believe so that I may see the glory of God.

'After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up; so that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the LORD who does all these things.' Acts 15:16-17 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for giving me a heart to seek after you.

Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, Acts 15:19 (NKJV)
Jesus, keep us from troubling new converts with needless rules and regulations.

Jesus, you are my confidence and my hope.

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall surround me, for You shall deal bountifully with me." Psalm 142:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring my soul out of prison.

A word received: Rest in me. Let me guide your steps.

Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:23-26 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, I long for that resurrection day.

And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you." John 11:28 (NKJV)
Jesus, come and visit my home.

So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Acts 15:8-9 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me accept all to whom you have given your Holy Spirit.

Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they." Acts 15:10-11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me trust in your work among new believers and not put you to the test.

If my step has turned from the way, or my heart walked after my eyes, or if any spot adheres to my hands, Job 31:7 (NKJV)
Lord, let my heart and my eyes walk in your way.

Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take up their names on my lips. Psalm 16:4 (NKJV)
LORD, help me honor those who fear you and keep my word even though it is costly.

Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work. Psalm 62:12 (NKJV)

I will seek to illustrate that one of the lasting contributions of Wesley was his ability to draw on seminal insights from the Eastern, Western, and Reformed streams of Christianity in an interpretation of Scripture that was truly an “evangelical-catholic” synthesis. His understanding of Christian perfection or holy love was both a recovery of God’s creative intention for humankind and an anticipation of the extent of God’s grace to transform human life. This session will not only explore Wesley’s understanding of holy love but also consider its implications for the church today.

When Jesus heard that, He said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it." John 11:4 (NKJV)
Jesus, may all our sicknesses be for the glory of God and that you may be glorified through them.

Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him." John 11:9-10 (NKJV)
Jesus, you are the light for my path.

Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. Acts 14:19-20a (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please give me the courage for the sake of the gospel to go back where I am not wanted that you gave Paul.

And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God." Acts 14:21-22 (NKJV)
Father, please help me accept the tribulations you send my way.

Have I not wept for him who was in trouble? Has not my soul grieved for the poor? But when I looked for good, evil came to me; and when I waited for light, then came darkness. Job 30:25-26 (NKJV)
LORD, I have tried to walk in your ways, but I don't know how to handle the evil that has come upon me.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:1-3 (NKJV)
Father, help me walk in your ways and bear the fruit you desire of me.

Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. Psalm 33:3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me sing the songs of Zion and play skillfully with shouts of joy.

He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. Psalm 33:15 (NKJV)
LORD, consider our works and bring us to new life in you.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, Psalm 33:18 (NKJV)
LORD, I hope in your mercy.

A word received: Pray for ears to hear me.

His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. John 9:22 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help church leaders repent of using their authority to coerce the answers they want.

He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." John 9:25 (NKJV)
Jesus, help all of us testify to what you have done for us as this man did.

They answered and said to him, "You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out. John 9:34 (NKJV)
Father, help our church leaders have the wisdom of those who have been touched by you.

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains. John 9:40-41 (NKJV)
Lord, willful blindness leads to sin.

And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on." Acts 13:15 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, give us words of exhortation to build up the Body of Christ.

Acts 13:25 (NKJV)
And as John was finishing his course, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.'
Jesus, bring us to the humility of John.

"How long will you torment my soul, and break me in pieces with words? Job 19:2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me repent of wrongful testimony about others.

Those who dwell in my house, and my maidservants, count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight. Job 19:15 (NKJV)
LORD, I have become an alien to some in my family.

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me! Job 19:25-27 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me daily live in the hope of the resurrection when I shall see you, and not as a stranger.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:5 (NKJV)
Jesus, continue to lead me in your truth.

Look on my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins. Psalm 25:18 (NKJV)
Father, see my sorrow and affliction and deliver me.

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth -- praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:1-3 (NKJV)
LORD, help me wait patiently upon you. Bring my feet out of the miry clay and establish my steps. Put a new song in my mouth.

I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly. Psalm 40:10 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me declare Jesus' faithfulness.

But I am poor and needy; yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God. Psalm 40:17 (NKJV)

A word received: Keep looking to me for help in time of need.

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him." John 9:1-3 (NKJV)
Lord, help us see the tragedies of this life from your perspective.

Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them. John 9:16 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, open our eyes so that we may see past our church rules to what you are doing.

Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. Acts 13:1 (NKJV)
Father, Manaen was brought up with Herod the tetrarch, yet he chose an entirely different path than Herod. Help us keep to the path you have marked out for us.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts 13:2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, guide the church in separating out those you have called to special work and ministry.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, "O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? Acts 13:8-10 (NKJV)
Lord, put a stop to all those who are trying to lead your people astray.

But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the comfort of my lips would relieve your grief. Job 16:5 (NKJV)
Father, please help me speak words of comfort and strength to those who are bowed down with life's sorrows.

Will they go down to the gates of Sheol? Shall we have rest together in the dust?" Job 17:16 (NKJV)
LORD, I long for that final day of rest in you.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. Psalm 130:1-2 (NKJV)
LORD, hear my cry to you.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. Psalm 130:5 (NKJV)
LORD, I wait on you and your mercy. I hope in you.

A word received: I Am doing what you cannot. Wait on me.
