2016 12 18 Sunday

*****
Note: Starting this week I will be visiting my brother in Connecticut, our son in California and our daughter in the Philippines until the end of January and will be off-line.
*****

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:18 (NKJV)
Father, please help us to be found with your life in us through your Holy Spirit - the life of Jesus.

But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us receive and accept all those who have found new faith through your Holy Spirit.

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." Matthew 1:21 (NKJV)
Jesus, save your people from their sins. Be the conviction of your Holy Spirit, help us all recognize our need for your saving work in our lives.

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, Romans 1:1-2 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, separate us to the gospel of God which you have promised through your word.

Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, Romans 1:5 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring us to the obedience of faith and send us forth into our community and to the nations.

Moreover the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above." But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" Then he said, "Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? Isaiah 7:10-13 (NKJV)
LORD, have mercy on us when we weary you by refusing to do what you ask of us. Bring us to repentance.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
Emmanuel, come among us with your power.

Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved! Psalm 80:3 (NKJV)
Restore us, O God of hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved! Psalm 80:7 (NKJV)

A word received: Look to me for my light to shine forth in you this Christmas.

2016 12 16 Friday

He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Matthew 11:15 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please give me ears to hear.

These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 2 Peter 2:17-19 (NKJV)
Jesus, preserve me from such dry wells. Let your living water flood my soul.

You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. Psalm 102:13 (NKJV)
Jesus, come now with your favor on your people.

He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer. Psalm 102:17 (NKJV)
Father, hear the prayers of the destitute.

The children of Your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before You." Psalm 102:28 (NKJV)
Jesus, establish my children and theirs before you.

A word received: Rest in my arms; I will carry you and never drop you.

2016 12 15 Thursday

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me respond to you and your kingdom.

Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. Matthew 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Lord, I pray for such a people movement in our day.

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Matthew 3:8-9 (NKJV)
Jesus, I can claim nothing except your cross and blood and resurrection.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matthew 3:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, come upon me with your fire.

His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." Matthew 3:12 (NKJV)
A word received (11/18/06) Pray for the day of my threshing. Pray that none of the wheat will be lost with the chaff. Pray for my little ones who are being led astray by lies. Pray for my will to be done.
Please burn away all the chaff in our lives and help us bear fruit worthy of repentance.

They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet. 2 Peter 2:15-16 (NKJV)
Father, rebuke me whenever I need it and get me back on the right path.

"Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, who write misfortune, which they have prescribed to rob the needy of justice, and to take what is right from the poor of My people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless. Isaiah 10:1-2 (NKJV)
LORD, bring our government to repentance for its underfunding the VA hospitals.

For You will light my lamp; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. Psalm 18:28 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus Christ, be my light for the way.

For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. Psalm 18:29 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, with your help I can leap over every wall and barrier before me.

A word received: Look to me. Look to me for guidance and light.

2016 12 14 Wednesday

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 2 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Lord, these words are true in our day.

then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. 2 Peter 2:9-10a (NKJV)
Jesus, continue to deliver me out of temptation.

As it is written in the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You." Mark 1:2 (NKJV)
Thank you, Jesus, for the messengers you sent before me to lead me to you.

And he preached, saying, "There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." Mark 1:7-8 (NKJV)
Jesus, baptize us afresh with your Holy Spirit.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, heal the broken hearted in our day and bind up their wounds.

The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy. Psalm 147:11 (NKJV)
Father, please help me give you pleasure, for I place my hope in your love and mercy.

Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God." Psalm 50:23 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me order my conduct aright so that I may see your salvation.

A word received: Look to me for help in the storm.

2016 12 13 Tuesday

Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed at a distance. Luke 22:54 (NKJV)
Lord, so many of your disciples follow you at a distance; help us draw near to you in all circumstances.

But he denied Him, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him." Luke 22:57 (NKJV)
Jesus, forgive us and restore us as you did with Peter when we deny you.

And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." Luke 22:61 (NKJV)
Father, so much that goes on at Christmas is a mockery of your son Jesus; have mercy on us.

"If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe. And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go. Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God." Luke 22:67-69 (NKJV)
Lord, we ask, but don't want to know. Instruct us by your Holy Spirit.

Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease [Greek: Exodus]. 2 Peter 1:15 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, keep reminding me of what I need to know.

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, move us and help us discern your word to us.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. Isaiah 9:2 (NKJV)
Father, help those who walk in darkness to see the light of Jesus.

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
Jesus, Savior, Son of God, we pray that our government will be upon your shoulders and that you will give counsel to those in authority.

He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. Psalm 33:15 (NKJV)
      LORD, fashion my heart.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, Psalm 33:18 (NKJV)
LORD, I do hope in your mercy.

A word received: Look to me when your plans fail; mine are certain and you can trust me.

When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." Luke 22:40 (NKJV)
Our Father, we pray that we will not be lead into temptation or hard testing.

And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." Luke 22:41-42 (NKJV)
Father, help us join with Jesus in accepting whatever cup you give us.

When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation." Luke 22:45-46 (NKJV)
Jesus, your church is asleep -- call it to a life of prayer by your Holy Spirit.

And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him. Luke 22:50-51 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us bring healing, even to those who afflict us.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 2 Peter 1:5-7 (NKJV)
Jesus, lead us through this sequence so that we may with diligence go from faith to godliness and on to love.

Here am I and the children whom the LORD has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion. Isaiah 8:18 (NKJV)
LORD, here am I and the children you have given me; help us to be signs of your love.

They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, Psalm 145:11 (NKJV)

Lord GOD, help my soul magnify you.

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. Luke 1:47 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me daily rejoice in your saving work.

For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. Luke 1:49 (NKJV)
Jesus, you have carried me and nurtured me and shown me the power and holiness of your name. Thank you.

And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. Luke 1:50 (NKJV)

And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." Luke 22:31-32 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us stay steady in Jesus in the times of sifting so that we may strengthen one another.

But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 2 Thessalonians 3:13 (NKJV)

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NKJV)

Father, help me know days of joy along with days of sorrow.

Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise in the assembly of saints. Psalm 149:1 (NKJV)

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you." Luke 22:19-20 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help us receive you and accept you as you are.

"For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves." Luke 22:27 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us follow your lead in serving.

But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 2 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me give thanks for all those you have chosen for salvation and belief in the truth.

Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (NKJV)
Father, having stood all; help me to stand.

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 2 Thessalonians 3:1 (NKJV)
Father, I pray that your word will run swiftly through our community.

Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NKJV)
      Lord, direct my heart.

For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven the LORD viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, Psalm 102:19-20 (NKJV)
      For Prisoners.
O GOD, who spares when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath remembers mercy; we humbly beseech you, of your goodness, to comfort and succour all prisoners [especially those who are condemned to die]. Give them a right understanding of themselves, and of your promises; that, trusting wholly in your mercy, they may not place their confidence anywhere but in you. Relieve the distressed, protect the innocent, awaken the guilty; and forasmuch as you alone bring light out of darkness, and good out of evil, grant to these your servants, that by the power of your Holy Spirit they may be set free from the chains of sin and death, and may be brought to newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [Adapted from the BCP 1928]

But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Psalm 22:3 (NKJV)
Help me make a dwelling place for you by my praise. Thank you.

2016 12 08 Thursday

And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat." Luke 22:8 (NKJV)
Jesus, prepare your Passover in our hearts.

And He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?" ' Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready." Luke 22:10-12 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me enter that upper room where my heart may be changed and brought out of bondage.

2016 12 07 Wednesday

Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?" This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. John 8:3-6 (NKJV)
My father-in-law used to say that Jesus was writing, "Where is the man?" Lord, set us free from judgment and condemnation of others. Help us acknowledge our own sins before looking at others' sins.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:2 (NKJV)
LORD, grace is receiving what we don't deserve. Thank you for your grace and peace.

so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, 2 Thessalonians 1:4 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me grow in patience and faith. Thank you for the tribulations and sorrows of life.

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!" Isaiah 6:1-3 (NKJV)
FAthher, restore to your people visionof your glory and your holiness.

So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged." Isaiah 6:5-7 (NKJV)
Jesus, we have become a people of unclean lips. Cleanse us and purify our converstions.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." Isaiah 6:8 (NKJV)
LORD, I am will to go wherever you send me.

Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." Psalm 50:14-15 (NKJV)
Jesus, I call upon you -- help me live out my vows to you.

The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground. Psalm 147:6 (NKJV)
LORD, bring me to the humility where you will lift me up.

The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy. Psalm 147:11 (NKJV)
Father, I hope in your mercy.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Luke 21:33 (NKJV)
Help me cling to your eternal word, Jesus.

Then early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him. Luke 21:38 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us come to Jesus as these people did.

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring our lives into your order.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 (NKJV)
Father, let our rejoicing loose your Holy Spirit among us with rejoicing.

Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, teach your people how to test prophecy -- give us discernment of your word.

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NKJV)
Thank you, Jesus, for your call and your faithfulness.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV)
LORD, turn this nation around. Help us choose what is right in your sight and leave behind what is evil.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Isaiah 5:21 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, give fear of God and wisdom to the leaders of this nation. Set them free from party spirit.

Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore the anger of the LORD is aroused against His people; He has stretched out His hand against them and stricken them, and the hills trembled. their carcasses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. for all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still. Isaiah 5:24-25 (NKJV)
Jesus, plese help us know that judgment is coming.

The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:11-12 (NKJV)
Father, help us take our stand on your counsel.

Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You. Psalm 33:22 (NKJV)
O LORD, you are my hope and my mercy.

A word received: Look to me for light for your path. Look to me with hope and expectation.

2013 12 05 Monday

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me walk as a child of the light.

Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me stand my watch.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NKJV)
Father, clothe me with your full armor.

Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help us comfort one another and build each other up in the knowledge of Jesus and the love of our Father in heaven.

Woe to those who join house to house; they add field to field, till there is no place where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land! In my hearing the LORD of hosts said, "Truly, many houses shall be desolate, great and beautiful ones, without inhabitant. For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield one ephah." Isaiah 5:8-10 (NKJV)
Jesus, help this nation understand the folly of pursing riches and ignoring you; of being rich in things and poor in spirit.

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD." Psalm 122:1 (NKJV)
Father, please help your people know the joy of going into your house.

The LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:14 (NKJV)
LORD, hold me up and steady my feet. Thank you.

A word received: You are in my care; wait on me for my provision.

2016 12 04 Sunday

I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt; put me to doing, put me to suffering; let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee; let me be full, let me be empty; let me have all things, let me have nothing; I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
From the Watch Night Service by John Wesley.

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Father, please help us recognize your kingdom as it comes among us.

For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.' " Matthew 3:3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us proclaim the kingdom in whatever wilderness we find ourselves.

Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. Matthew 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Jesus, move the people of this region to go forth confessing their sins and being baptized by water and your Holy Spirit.

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, Matthew 3:8 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us bear fruit worthy of repentance.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Romans 15:4 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, bring your people to the patience and comfort contained in Scripture so that they may have hope.

Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. Romans 15:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us receive one another and everyone you send us, just as you received us.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NKJV)
Lord GOD, fill me up with joy and peace in believing so that I may abound in hope by the power of your Holy Spirit.

He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor. Psalm 72:4 (NKJV)
      Come soon, Lord Jesus.

A word received: Look to me for hope that does not disappoint.

2016 12 02 Friday

Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples, "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation." Luke 20:45-47 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, set the church free from those televangelists who promise what they can't deliver in order to gain money.

And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had." Luke 21:1-4 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us recognize our poverty before you and give out of our poverty as this widow did.

for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 1 Thessalonians 4:2-5 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, set your people from pornography and sexual immorality; and we pray that we may keep our bodies in sanctification and honor.

"Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be given him. Isaiah 3:10-11 (NKJV)
Father, help us recognize the consequences of our deeds for good or ill.

Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:8-9 (NKJV)
Jesus, please give us thankful hearts.

Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven. Psalm 107:28-30 (NKJV)
LORD, I cry out to you: calm my distress, and bring me to the haven of your house.

And He has exalted the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints -- of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise the LORD! Psalm 148:14 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me to be near you at all times and in all places.

A word received: Look to me with the longing of your heart.

2016 12 01 Thursday

For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know. 1 Thessalonians 3:4 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me accept the tribulations you send me.

But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you 1 Thessalonians 3:6 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for the good news of those saints who remain faithful.

Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, establish my heart in God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

The LORD stands up to plead, and stands to judge the people. The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders of His people and His princes: "For you have eaten up the vineyard; the plunder of the poor is in your houses. What do you mean by crushing My people and grinding the faces of the poor?" Says the Lord GOD of hosts. Isaiah 3:13-15 (NKJV)
Lord GOD, turn the hearts of the rulers of this land to the poor and the oppressed.

He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me. Psalm 18:17 (NKJV)
Lord, deliver us from our strong enemy.

A word received: Look to me when the road is hard and stony.
