2017 03 30

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44 (NKJV)
Father, draw me to Jesus day by day.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." John 6:51 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me daily receive the living bread from Jesus.

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me put to death the deeds of the flesh.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." Romans 8:15 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for adopting me as your child.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me have this perspective on my present pain.

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV)
      Holy Spirit, help me pray.

Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD! Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
Father, hide me in the day of trouble. Set me high on the rock who is Jesus.

A word received: Come to me day by day for my living water and my bread which satisfies.

Prayer Table ST. ANN'S OF AMSTERDAM -- (Monday, March 27, 2017, 9:45-10:45 a.m. on the front porch entrance to our church on Division Street) -- We set up on the porch under a roof because of the threat of rain, although thankfully it never did start raining. Just cool and damp after early morning rain. James Bryant, Rebecca Lohmeyer and Deacon Alan presiding at His table today.
SCENES -- I am always telling you how every prayer table session is different. In the five-plus years we've been holding Prayer Table at our church on Monday mornings, every session has been different. Today was no exception. Whereas last week all those dozen or so people lined up for anointing and prayer, this time only a handful came for prayer. But one reason for that is because one particular person, a woman named NANCY who has been coming to the table ever since we started in July of 2012, needed special time today. She never has had much to say, but today she engaged us in conversation with questions like "Our Apostles Creed in the Roman Catholic church says that Jesus went down to Hell after He was crucified and before he was raised. Do YOU believe that, and if you do, why do you think he did that?" and "Does Hell really last forever? I want to believe that God is too merciful to want people to suffer that long." One question after another for about 20 minutes. And the beauty of it all was that the other dozen or so people waiting at the table for food to come out and be distributed were all listening carefully for the replies we gave. This from a woman who is very hard of hearing and had hardly ever conversed with us before. Something made her "open up" after all this time. Most of the answers we offered to her (and also for those listening) we explained that there are just many mysteries of this life and the next we will not really get the answers to until we are on "the other side." But wow ... what an opportunity to witness to others the love and power of Christ to all of us! When these little opportunities come up, we must be true disciples and show His love to others who are seeking Him. And you don't have to be someone wearing a collar to do that! You just need to believe in Jesus and not be afraid to talk about Him. ... Many people took clothing for all seasons, and a special thank you to the Santiago family and to Gloria Ray for their recent generous donation so of clean, used clothing.
PRAYER CONCERNS -- Please hold an older woman named LYDIA in prayer. She has serious health issues. The Lord knows the details. ... DARCY, who is caring for the sons of her brother JOSE while he is ill, needs our continued prayers. She has a big load to bear taking care of these boys, who are older teens. JOSE is in a rehabilitation center called Pathways in Schenectady where Deacon MaryCarol celebrates a service twice each month. ... Please pray for our mailman JOHN, who has been a big supporter of our Prayer Table for a few years now. He has just been assigned to a different route and won't be visiting us anymore but wants us to remember him in prayer.

The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?" Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. John 6:52-53 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me come with humility to the banquet table to receive Jesus.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me daily be a part of that "working together."

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:31-32 (NKJV)
      Father, you are my provider.

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Romans 8:34 (NKJV)
      Jesus, intercede for me today.

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, do that work of persuasion in my heart as well.

"Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!" says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: "You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings," says the LORD. "But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking," says the LORD. Jeremiah 23:1-4 (NKJV)
Jesus, raise up faithful shepherds in our generation to restore the flock and guard it from all evil.

But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Psalm 22:3 (NKJV)
Father, help me praise you day by day.

A word received: Wait on me, for my timing is perfect.

"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him." John 6:27 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please give me discernment of what will truly satisfy.

Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent." John 6:28-29 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, I believe; increase my faith and belief. Thank you.

And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:35 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me receive you into me when I receive the communion bread and wine.

"And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40 (NKJV)
Jesus, I long for that last day.

For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do...For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Romans 7:15,19 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me as I still struggle with this.

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. Psalm 5:11 (NKJV)
LORD, I trust and rejoice in you.

A word received: Find your joy in me.

Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another--to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. Romans 7:4 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us enter into the marriage covenant with you.

O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, "Surely our fathers have inherited lies, worthlessness and unprofitable things." Will a man make gods for himself, which are not gods? Jeremiah 16:19-20 (NKJV)
Father, help us repent of making gods after our own evil desires.

I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are right, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me. Psalm 119:75 (NKJV)

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have no bread." But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, "Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" They said to Him, "Twelve." "Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, "Seven." So He said to them, "How is it you do not understand?" Mark 8:16-21 (NKJV)
A word received: I have been your provider all these years; why do you still doubt?

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. Galatians 4:28 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me daily become a child of promise.

And the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart. Jeremiah 14:14 (NKJV)
Lord GOD, there are so many false prophets in the land; have mercy on us.

We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You. Jeremiah 14:20 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help us acknowledge our sins before you.

How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young -- even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God. Psalm 84:1-3 (NKJV)
LORD, help me find rest by your altar.

2017 03 21 Home again

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." John 7:37-38 (NKJV)
Jesus, I believe in you; let your living water flow through me to others.

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!" John 7:45-46 (NKJV)
Jesus, you have spoken to my heart like no other.

Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived? Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed." John 7:47-49 (NKJV)
Jesus, set you church and your people free from rulers who don't believe in you.

(as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed--God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be." Romans 4:17-18 (NKJV)
Father, you have caused me to live in hope.

But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.' Jeremiah 7:23 (NKJV)
Father, please help me walk in your ways; guide me by your Holy Spirit.

And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness And of Your praise all the day long. Psalm 35:28 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help speak of all that you have done for me.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. John 5:2-4 (NKJV)
Lord, so many of us wait for the moving of the waters; help us meet you there.

Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." John 5:8 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us by the power of your Holy Spirit to rise up and walk.

But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working." John 5:17 (NKJV)
Father, keep on working in my life and the lives of my children and theirs.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Romans 1:28 (NKJV)

And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15 (NKJV)
LORD, give us shepherds after your own heart.

Holy Spirit, please help me believe Jesus' words to me.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, forgive me for the times I have been ashamed to speak up when I had the opportunity to do so.

"For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13 (NKJV)

PRAYER TABLE REPORT -- (St. Ann's of Amsterdam, on the lawn in front of our church on Division Street each Monday, 10 a.m.) -- I am sorry that I have been truant in putting out prayer table reports lately. I've just been involved with a lot of things lately. But please know that we ARE out there every Monday and the people of our neighborhood ARE coming to, usually in great number. The weather has been against us the last few weeks with nasty cold temps and winds, but the people still come for our prayer offerings, free used, clean clothing and free non-perishable food. Deacon Alan, James Bryant and Rebecca Lohmeyer presiding at His table. SOME PRAYER TABLE SCENES -- We have a lot of "regulars" who come every week like clockwork, but we have also noticed lately many people coming for the first time. This is usually because they have heard about us by word of mouth, and sometimes it is because they just arrived in Amsterdam and are not prepared for the cold weather up here. Therefore, your generous donations of all kinds of clothing and shoes and even sheets and towels have been greatly appreciated. ... We have also noticed a growing trend among the people who know us and trust us to take only what they really need and saving the rest for others who are also in need. This is a wonderful sign of Christ working in the midst of want and need as people help each other. PRAYER CONCERNS -- Please pray for ANDREA, who comes every week and is among the first to arrive. Her needs are many and great. (We often have people arrive as early as 9:30 and we let them in the church parish hall to stay warm until we put the clothing and food out. Some have even joined us for Morning Prayer at 9:15.) ... CARMELLA and CECILIA are two women who have been coming to the table in recent weeks. They always head right over for prayer before going for food and clothing. ... A woman (No name) had an unusual prayer request last week. She asked for prayer for her little dog LOKIE, a Chihuahua who is blind. She brought him along. He's 14. (Yes, we certainly DO pray for animals as well as humans!) ... Please keep DARCY in your prayers. She cares for the teenaged sons of her brother JOSE, who is very ill and living at Pathways Rehab in Schenectady -- the home where Deacon MaryCarol celebrates a Protestant service twice each month. ... Finally, THANK YOU for your support of this ministry. Your intercessory prayers and your contributions of food and clothing are much appreciated. In your love and care for our neighbors you are living out the Gospel.

And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why are You talking with her?" John 4:27 (NKJV)

Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work." John 4:34 (NKJV)

Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! John 4:35 (NKJV)

Father, help me dwell in your house.

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Psalm 84:10 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me spend my days in your house.

Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." John 4:10 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me know and receive the gift of God. Help me daily ask for and receive your living water.

Jesus, I thirst for more of you in my life.

but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:14 (NKJV)

The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband,' for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly." John 4:17-18 (NKJV)
Father, reveal my secret sins to me so that I can confess them.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:23-24 (NKJV)
Father, please help me worship you in Spirit and in truth.

Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He." John 4:26 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me recognize Jesus for who he is.

who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, Hebrews 5:7 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me have your godly fear.

though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. Hebrews 5:8 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me learn obedience, even through suffering.

You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 11:19 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me teach your ways to my children.

Vindicate me, O God, And plead my cause against an ungodly nation; Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! Psalm 43:1 (NKJV)
LORD, I look to you for vindication.

After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized. Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. John 3:22-23 (NKJV)
Jesus, there is water all around us, but where are the people to be baptized?

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." John 3:36 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for giving me belief in you and everlasting life.

Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:11 (NKJV)
Father, please help me strive to enter your rest.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
Father, let your word preserve my heart and soul.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, I come boldly to your throne of grace for help and mercy in my time of need.

"And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good? Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me do all that our Father requires of me.

Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. Deuteronomy 10:16 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, circumcise my heart so that I will be willful no more.

For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing. Deuteronomy 10:17-18 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help us love the aliens among us.

"He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue Him; let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!" Psalm 22:8 (NKJV)
Father, I trust in you to deliver me.

Save Me from the lion's mouth and from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. Psalm 22:21 (NKJV)
LORD, save my life! I trust you to answer me.

A word received: Look to me for glory and honor.

He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me decrease so that Jesus can increase in me.

For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. Hebrews 4:2 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me hear with ears of faith the gospel that is preached to me.

again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts." Hebrews 4:7 (NKJV)
Father, soften our hearts so that you may write your word upon them.

Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Psalm 5:8 (NKJV)
Lead me, LORD, in a straight path.

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. Psalm 5:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me rejoice in you and praise you.

A word received: Do not be afraid; I Am your shield and your great reward.

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. John 2:23 (NKJV)
Jesus, please give us eyes to see the signs you are going among us today.

This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:2-3 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, bring me to new birth day by day.

Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" John 3:4 (NKJV)
Father, we so often look for human explanations rather than to your Holy Spirit.

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?" John 3:8-10 (NKJV)
Jesus, help the teachers in your church understand these things.

"that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:15 (NKJV)
Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help us exhort one another to go on in our new life in Christ.

And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God--had made for yourselves a molded calf! You had turned aside quickly from the way which the LORD had commanded you. Deuteronomy 9:16 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us recognize and repent of the idols we have made in our lives.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was angry with you, to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me at that time also. Deuteronomy 9:19 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for the intercessors today who keep us from destruction.

Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Psalm 5:8 (NKJV)
LORD, lead me on your straight path.

A word received: My people have wandered far from me; pray they will return.

(Blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India:)
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with us in our going out and our coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver us from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.
May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver us.
And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with us this day and always. Amen.

And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!" John 2:16 (NKJV)
Lord, keep us from misusing your Father's house.

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. Hebrews 3:1-3 (NKJV)
Father, please help me to be faithful in my calling and in my house.

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, 'They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.' So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.' " Hebrews 3:7-11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please soften our hearts.

"Remember. Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD." Deuteronomy 9:7 (NKJV)
LORD, I remember the many times I have provoked you and been in rebellion against you. Thank you for forgiving me and making me clean again.

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 (NKJV)
LORD, help me bless you at all times and in all circumstances.

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Psalm 34:11 (NKJV)
      LORD, teach to fear you.

The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. Psalm 34:22 (NKJV)
LORD, thank you for redeeming me and helping trust in you.

A word received: Welcome me into your home and the place where your heart dwells.

"I believe in order to understand." St. Augustine

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. John 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Jesus, please bless the weddings and marriages in our community with your presence and the presence of your disciples.

When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" John 2:9-10 (NKJV)
Pour out the new wine of your Holy Spirit at every wedding in our community.

For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:18 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help and strengthen me in my hour of temptation.

And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. Deuteronomy 8:2 (NKJV)
Father, help me be steady in you during the wilderness years as you test me and lead me to learn what is in my heart.

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV)
Father, please feed me daily with your word.

You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you. Deuteronomy 8:5 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for your chastening me as your child.

And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)
LORD, help me remember you in all the circumstances of my life.

Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments. Psalm 119:73 (NKJV)
LORD, I need the understanding that only you can give me.

A word received: Come to me day by day for my living water.

No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. Mark 2:21 (NKJV)
Lord, your church is a patch-work quilt of shrunk and unshrunk cloth, and its fabric is tearing. Have mercy on us.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins." Mark 2:22 (NKJV)
Jesus, let the new wine of your Holy Spirit find appropriate containers in your church.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)
God, thank you for the cross.

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:22-25 (NKJV)
      Father, help me preach Jesus.

Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NKJV)
LORD, I choose your "foolishness" over the wisdom of men.

Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young-- even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God. Psalm 84:3 (NKJV)
Lord, let your little ones find a place by your altars. Help your church welcome all who come seeking you.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. Psalm 84:5 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, set me on the pilgrim's path.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 (NKJV)
Father, help me walk uprightly in your ways.

A word received: You are in my care; don't be afraid.

Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" John 1:35-36 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, raise up people who will point us to Jesus as John did with his disciples.

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things-- that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. Titus 2:1-8 (NKJV)
Jesus, bring us of all ages to the maturity in you that you desire for us.

A word received: Offer your pain to me.

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." John 1:45 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, show us clearly when it is time to share Jesus with someone else.

And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." John 1:46 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please help me recognize the good that can come out of bad situations.

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, Titus 3:4-6 (NKJV)
Jesus, thank you for washing and making me clean.

you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. Deuteronomy 7:18-19 (NKJV)
Father, help me remember your past victories so that I will know I can trust you in the present trials.

And the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Deuteronomy 7:22 (NKJV)
Jesus, help us be content with your "little by little".

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God. Psalm 43:5 (NKJV)
LORD, I shall yet praise you.

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. Luke 18:9-10 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me place my trust only in Jesus' righteousness.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' Luke 18:11-12 (NKJV)
Jesus, please help me repent of self-satisfied prayers.

And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' Luke 18:13 (NKJV)
Father, bring me to the self-knowledge and humility of this tax collector.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Luke 18:14 (NKJV)
Lord, no one is justified in your sight unless you do that work of grace and mercy in their lives. Jesus, you are my justification -- I have no other.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)
Jesus, help me find my endurance and stamina in you, whatever the cost.

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives." Hebrews 12:5-6 (NKJV)
Father, thank you for the way you have chastened me out of your love for me.

Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. Hebrews 12:12-13 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, please make my path straight before me.

Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly. And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and You heard my voice. Jonah 2:1-2 (NKJV)
Lord GOD, hear my cry and help me out of my affliction.

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, Jonah 3:1 (NKJV)
LORD, let your word come to me again, even if I wasn't heeding it the first time.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. Jonah 4:1 (NKJV)
Father, help me repent of my anger and accept your way of doing things.

And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left--and much livestock?" Jonah 4:11 (NKJV)
Holy Spirit, help me have pity on those who stumble in darkness.

Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Psalm 5:8 (NKJV)
LORD, lead me and make my way straight before me.

A word received: I Am leading you by the hand -- don't be afraid.
