James 1:27 New King James Version
27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Arthur Fennicks is City Director of Citylife (Youth for Christ) in Schenectady, NY and a member of our family. He wrote the following:
Hello, I’m reaching out to you for prayer over Schenectady and our Citylife ministry. Last week, I had the honor of sharing my story and the gospel at the Schenectady City Council meeting. October is national domestic violence awareness month so I was invited to share how domestic violence has impacted our lives and to receive a resolution from the city council members of how the city wants to move forward and counter these issues and raise awareness during this month.
They shared how as of right now in Schenectady there are 10 murders indictments and out of the 10, there are 6 that are domestic violence cases, and out of the 6, there are 4 that were children (1 of those 10 homicides happened just recently to a 15 year old boy). For me these numbers are difficult to hear knowing first-hand the damage that domestic violences causes not only the individual and the family, but an entire community.
I am calling out to all of you to share in our suffering, to help carry the burden of this city in prayer, and to sow and invest in the ministries and organizations who are the boots on the ground trying to combat this darkness in town. Our youth in our ministry are scarred, numb, traumatized, angry (some wanting revenge). We need a move of the Holy Spirit bringing order to the chaos and hope despite the tragedy.
Thank you and God bless.
A Word Received: I want you to care for children and orphans and widows. This is the measure of your faith.
