Matthew 5:1-10 New King James Version
The Beatitudes
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
Holy Spirit, please help us come to Jesus as faithful disciples.
2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
Father, please help us to be teachable.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus, help me recognize my poverty of spirit.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Jesus, thank you for sending your Comforter to me as I mourned Jean's death.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Father, help me bring my strength under your control.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Holy Spirit, help our rulers hunger for your righteousness rather than for political advantage.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Holy Spirit, please help our rulers have mercy and compassion toward the poor.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Jesus, please bring me to purity of heart.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Father, please help us seek for your peace.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
LORD, the poor and downtrodden are persecuted; have mercy on them
A Word Received: Look to me for hope that does not disappoint.
