Proverbs 1:1-7 New King James Version
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
Holy Spirit, thank you for the wisdom we receive from you.
2 To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
Father, please help us recognize wisdom when we encounter it.
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom,
Justice, judgment, and equity;
Jesus, please help us receive wisdom and apply it to our lives.
4 To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion—
Jesus, give the youths of our diocese prudence and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
Jesus, help the adults to hear and increase in understanding.
6 To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles.
Father, help us understand the words of the wise.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
LORD, so many despise your words and wisdom. Cleanse your church of such folly.
A Word Received: Listen to my words; hearken to my word; for there true wisdom will be found.
